Hawaiian Surf Cologne

This fragrance was popular in the mid to late 1960's. It came in a cork cannister. Is there an available source for it?

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
There is a fragrance now available called "Caribbean Lime Bay Rum" which, if not the same formula, is very similar to Hawaiian Surf.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I see still sealed bottles of this sell regularly on e-bay. Saw one just last week and one a few weeks before, another several months ago. ..Gary.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I have been looking for Hawaiian Surf in the cork bottle for almost 10 years. I even looked in hawaii when I was on vacation but could not find. Let me know if you locate a source. I grew up in Florida and it was very big in the 1967-1970 period. Thanks

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I've searched the Internet for "Caribbean Lime Bay Rum" but I can't find this exact name. Who makes it?

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
ST.John's Bay Rum makes the lime spice cologne. I used the last of my Hawaiian Surf this year and St. John's is a very good 2nd! I have used it since the 60s- always uniform. What ever it is that they do, they're doing it right. Http://stjohnsbayrum.com/
P.S. No..., H/S DOES still smell great. I expect that the ingredients were too costly to continue making. My bottle says that it was made by Hawaiian Surf in Hawaii. I never have found any other info on it. Cheers!

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I also used this cologne in the late 60s and early 70s. I still have two empty bottles with the cork, and the aroma can still be detected.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I was a surfer and lifeguard in the 60s in Hollywood, Florida and always used this cologne. It came in a cork lined bottle. Does anyone know who the mfg was and how we can obtain it again? I found one bottle in Raleigh,nc back in the 80s and was about 15 years old...but it was GOLD !!!

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I am in the same boat I have been looking for this colone for years. I really liked back in the late 60s
If anyone one has found a source hit me up.

The irony would be to find some only then to find out your taste has changed...
Hi-Karate anyone :-P

I've tried the St. Johns Bay Rum product and it is a good substitute for Hawaiian Surf. Wouldn't it be great if someone would formulate and market the original formular now!

My husband is also looking for this same cologne. Have you had any luck locating it? I would love to surpirse him with it for our 16th Wedding Anniversary.

Man... I've been searching for Hawaiian Surf Cologne, (the original in the cork bottle) since 1972. Was using it before then but couldn't find it after that. Does anyone know what company originally bottled it? If anyone can find it I'll be eternally grateful.

While it's comforting reading that I'm not the only one obsessed with HS, I'm not sure if there is any left. I have contacted the original designer's son and he doesn't have any answers. I have a 1/2 bottle left and if anyone has a suggestion how to find someone (company) to duplicate I would be more than happy to share.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Is the Hawaiian Surf smell-a-like cologne the "Bay Rum with Lime" or the "West Indian Lime"??
posted 12/22/09 by el Surfeador

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I believe it's the West Indian Lime. I ordered the $5 samples from St. Johns for my dad (who has been looking for this for years). He said it's the closest to HS that he's found based off memory.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Demeters Hawaiian Surf is nice but it's not like the old Hawaiian Surf. You can get off ebay for a reasonable price.
posted 01/30/10 by el surfeador

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Also, the West Indian Lime cologne is also available on ebay, $36 with $8 shipping. Save about $5, not a huge savings but it's something ($42 + $7 shipping from company web site).
posted 01/31/10 by el Surfeador

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
FYI- The West Indian Lime cologne is very limey (I have tried it), but it's still not like HS.

Still have the bottle which is actually in a cork covering of the bottle. Nothing left in the bottle but the smell is still there, and I open it on rare occasions, afraid the smell will disappear. Would like to find it, and would probably pay moderately for it if it was the real stuff

I have a 4oz bottle. I guess I could mail some on a cotton ball so you could smell to verify. Can divide it up into smaller bottles. Its in the original cork bottle now. Could send picture from my cell to another cell.

What would be a going price if someone has a 95% full bottle of the original authentic cologne?
posted 07/19/10 by pianogrrrl

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Not sure if my other message went through. If there was a legitimate 95% full bottle of the authentic cologne, what would be a going rate? And to get an idea of pricing, what was it sold at back in "the day"? Was it like a designer fragrance like Ralph Lauren? Where all could you get it?

Have 4oz in original cork bottle. Will divide. Can send pics over the cell phone and/or mail sample for smell idenifying.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Does Hawaiian Surf smell like Old Spice Fresh Lime cologne/aftershave? I think these smell wonderful, but H.S. Was a little before my time,so I never got to smell what it was like. There was one called "Dry Lime" by Max Factor for men ,in the Royal Regiment line, also Frost Lime , by Aqua Velva, also Surf Rider(made in Hawaii about the same time period as H.S. These are some vintage colognes I have found on Ebay, but I never won any of the H.S. Yet.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Does anyone know how to identify what year a bottle was made? Was any year better than another? I have a bottle. It looks pretty old. It does smell good though.
posted 07/17/10 by Kim

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Well don't know if it ages like a fine wine, but have to say if it was available I would put it in that category to purchase it, without much hesitation.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I too would purchase without hesitation....
posted 07/17/10 by Denny

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
If it's an original HS, I'd definitely purchase it. All I can do now is continue to whiff the sweet scent from my old empty original cork-covered bottles.
posted 07/17/10 by DavLou

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Who would ever think...after all these years, that one would even think of this stuff, again. When I was younger...I just wasted HS....Now I would be willing to pay high dollars, for a bottle...and I am not even, an everyday cologn user...

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I won't be too greedy, but for a verifiable 1/2 oz. I would think $200-300 would be reasonable. Of course I know some of you may think that's not enough, (you may be right) but while I am sorry for the loss of your facility... Well actually don't know where I'm going with this. Anyway, if it's the real thing I could go higher, maybe $500. In the back of my head I'm thinking I must be crazy, but my friend Dick Vincent says money is just something you use to get stuff. He has a lot more than I do (money and stuff).

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I found an original unopened cork bottle, wrapped in plastic, of Hawaiian Surf two years ago. I was tempted to leave it that way, but I had to put some on and go back to 1968 when my wife and I dated. It has only a few drops out of the bottle, as I just love to go back in time with just by taking off the cap. As to who made it? The small print only says "Hawaiian Surf Industries Hawaii - New York 4 fl oz" I have another half-full bottle, but the contents are darker and the smell is skunked. The new bottle is the real deal. I'll sell both for $450.
posted 11/14/10 by Mark Lindemer Sr

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
$450 hmmm sounds reasonable esp is the one is the real deal. Looked at mine and the small print is as you say. Now if we can figure out how to trasact this silly deal we'll all be happy
posted 11/15/10 by mickey

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
Yes, both bottles are the real deal. But like I said, one is half-full with the HS in it much darker and not smelling the same as fresh. It has a retail sticker of the bottom - $2.50! It's been a long time since '68. The other was opened by me and is as fresh as new. I'd say 3.95 oz. Is in it. The scent will take you back in time.

I will be happy to e-mail photos, if anyone likes. Just send me your address. If you want to know more about me, go to eBay. I am under the name "harmonygroup."

Best offer $450 or above gets both. I can bill you through PayPal. If no takers, I will put on eBay with a $450 reserve. I will pack both like a brick house and pay the shipping anywhere in the continental U.S.

Thanks for your interest!!

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I have recently been in touch with the original creator and principal of the 1960's cologne "Hawaiian Surf"! I grew up on the East Coast of Florida in the 1960's and was obsessed with HS. Purchased my last bottle in 1970 and have been searching for a supply ever since! The very good news is that this Gentleman (I'll keep his identity private) is seriously considering putting the original formula HAWAIIAN SURF back on the market!!!!!! If you believe (like me) that this 1960's classic scent deserves a second chance then please voice your opinion. Just maybe our collective voices will provide the encouragement needed to experience our "fountain of youth", VINTAGE HAWAIIAN SURF, once again!
Thanks for your time, Michael.

Re: Hawaiian Surf Cologne
I'm certainly interested, and am excited to hear you've been in contact with the creator. Thanks for letting us know. This is similar to my being in contact with lots of our 1960s rock and roll idols via email after 40+ years. I'm ready to purchase some of the new HS made from the original formula. In the meantime, I'll continue to occasionally sniff from my old empties.

I have a bottle of "Surf Rider" Shaving Lotion (Cologne)...the real deal from the 1950's. I'm selling it for a client whose parents lived their during the late 40s and 50s. His mother kept EVERYTHING! This bottle was still wrapped in the original wrapping paper it was purchased in. I have pictures...it's perfect! Getting ready to list it on Ebay but thought I would post it here first since you guys are looking for vintage Hawaiian fragrances.

THE LABEL COLORS ARE NEW AND VIVID UNLIKE THE FADED LABELS I HAVE SEEN ON BOTTLES LISTED ON EBAY. I HAVE LISTED THE TALC ON EBAY AND THE LISTING IS LIVE RIGHT NOW FOR ANY OF YOU WHO WANT THE TALC. THE POWDER COLOR IS PURE WHITE TOO ALL OF WHICH SHOWS THESE WERE STORED OUT OF THE LIGHT AND THE COLOGNE SCENT IS IN TACT PERFECTLY! I SAW A BOTTLE OF THE COLOGNE THE OTHER DAY ON EBAY, FADED LABEL AND THE LIQUID HAD DISCOLORED TO BROWN AND IT SOLD FOR OVER $300.00. THIS BOTTLE OF TALC IS PERFECT AND PURE.

Ps...I also have a mini-sample bottle of H.S. But the very top cork section is missing....Hey,this is great!!...We need to keep one another posted,on any new findings...
I wonder if there's even a chance that it will be reinstated one day?...Heck,I'll keep 'em in business, just through my own personal purchases!!!...lol...Seriously,I love this scent and have considered sending a very small amount to some company i saw on the web, that supposedly can match just about anything....hmmm...doubt that's true though...
