Anyone Remember Aqua Velva Redwood?
| Does anyone remember the Aqua Velva after-shave collection from the 70's? I recall Redwood and Menthol Mist (my very favorites!), but there was also Lime and something else I don't remember. |

| Occasionally the "poker chips" canister (4 , 2oz. Bottles ea.)of aqua velva Redwoods aftershave, surf, frost lime, and menthol mist, can still be purchased on e-bay.com . I have managed to purchase 3 complete sets in the past few years. The fragrances all smell just as they did several decades ago, although they dont remain as strong on the skin as when they were originally new,in the 70s. Gary |

Should I show it to my husband and have a good laugh? I can't imagine it being any good this long after processing. |

| I contacted the company, and was told they simply aren't available anymore, except through eBay, etc. But if anyone wants to trade for it (I want Redwood and maybe Menthol Mist, someone else here wants Frost Lime), I have a few miniatures I don't care for: Aqua di Gio, Quorum, etc. I understand the Aqua Velva's are old and dusty, but that's better than not having them at all. |

| I actually contacted the company several months ago and they told me it simply isn't available anymore: only "Ice Blue" and Musk are available new. Of course, you might be able to find some on eBay or somewhere like that. I miss being able to go to the local grocery store (in my case, it was Skagg's Alpha-Beta) and pay $4 for that wonderful smell that got me through high school. |

| I don't know how similar this is, but someone told me about "PARFUMS Series 2 Red: Sequoia" by Comme des Garcons (2001). It certainly cost more than Redwood, but I've been told it smells like a Redwood tree. If I find the link, I will post it, and you can order a $2 sample. |

Hey, Allen
The samples were apparently delayed and finally arrived just two days ago. They were very strong and had a bit of Redwood to them, but I found them to be more of a musk scent and not really close to the Redwood Aqua Velva we knew and loved....too bad, eh? |

Why dont companies announce "buy tons we are deleting xyz brand"? Also I used to buy English Leather Timberline flavor and deoderant. I still have 2 sticks of the later. Someone should post Aqua Velvas email and we will all tell them how many cases we'd buy. |

Hello fellow Redwood enthusiasts!
I was at a 2nd hand/antique/junk store today and found 2 FULL bottles (one in original box) of full size bottles of Aqua Velva Redwood!! (looks like they were never used)The glass has a 'bark-like' texture that I had forgotten about (these bottles are probably from late 60's?. I just shaved and splashed some on...exactly as I remember!! I plan on giving both to my father for Christmas...he will be very excited!
Check out those 2nd hand stores...you never know! |

Aqua Velva Redwood! I remember walking 3-miles at 7:30 in the evening during December to pick up a gift set of the cologne featuring the "Redwood" scent in 1973 soon after it came out. I was only 15 at the time and didn't drive but went to the local A&P Supermarket in Scranton Pennsylvania to get a refill of the fragrance!

| Francisco I have several sets of the aqua velva(original, surf ,frost lime ,and redwood), as well as a 4 oz bottle of redwood aftershave. I think that the fragrance copy places will only duplicate a test batch because they want you to buy their essential oils etc. There is a seller on e-bay whose name is "jethrobodinejr" who has tried to get past famous fragrances copied and the companies wanted to get a commitment that was in the several thousand dollar range.Where did you find a company that copies fragrances? I am little more interested in AV Frost Lime.
I see that someone have foun some in its original bottle; I presume since not opened nor in the light, it will be ok in regard to smell.
Proposal: If I can get 0.5 oz of each, I take the commitment of having them counter-typed at a perfume lab, at my expense. If counter type close enough, will get some made and we share the cost. |

Nick,
Glad to know you liked Redwood--it was one of my favorites as well.
There always seem to be several bottles available on Ebay. The frangrance would have degraded some degree by now, and I have not tried to buy any. A while ago I found a website that said that they could recreate it, but didn't save the name of the site. I'm going to try to locate that one again. Aromacreations.com can recreate a fragrance but needs a sample to work from and their minimum purchase is quite high--about four gallons. They probably sell mainly to those who then sell retail.
Your message has piqued my interest again and I am going to do a bit more research. I will post a message again if I find out anything.
God bless.

That's an interesting question. The memories we have of a scent (or of anything for that matter) are probably tied up with the events of that time in our life, which cannot be duplicated now. Interestingly, the scent which stirs men the most is supposedly that of turkey roasting in the oven. I can concur with that.
God bless.
