Why Not Carnation Fragrance???

I have looked everywhere for a carnation fragrance. It is such a beautiful, simple, and wonderous fragrance, but the last time I was able to find it was Roger & Gallet Blue Carnation. Used it for 20 years, but then they discontinued it and I've not seen anything even similar since then. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who wants this fragrance. HELP PLEASE!!

I have been purchasing a nice carnation perfume from a perfumery in New Orleans called Hove. It is spicy and old fashioned and no mistaking it is carnation.

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
I've been looking for Blue Carnation perfume, too. There are other carnation fragrances out there but they do not have the old fashioned spicy scent of Roger and Gallet's version. Evelyn and Crabtree used to make one very similar but, alas, they discontinued it a while back, I guess. If anyone finds either of these...please let me know. Thanks : )

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
Being a Carnation lover myself, I have searched the net relentlessly to find this magnificent scent in any form!

Long story made short, I met a lovely lady on Ebay by the name of Lori that makes her own handmade "spicy pink carnation" oil that is out of this world! It comes in 1/3 oz rollette for $6.25 which is an excellent value as this oil lasts a long time.

Even though I've gotten many compliments from others on how great I smell, I don't wear it for anybody else but ME! I'm absolutely addicted to the stuff!

I just wanted to pass this information along in case you'd like to try this fabulous product for yourself. What do you have to lose? Carnation is hard to come by these days....

Oh - and her Carnation lotion smells just as beautiful as the oil!

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
I too love the spicy soft floral scent of carnations, but have had a hard time finding a long lasting perfume. I have not smelled Bellodgia by Caron to date, but plan on buying some and trying soon. I have however found a great carnation perfume by an italian perfumer named Lorenzo Villerosi called "Garafano" It is italian so a little goes a long way. Normally I dab my wrists, cleveage and back of my neck. It is rather expensive but I assure you worth the price. It is long, long lasting and goes thru a very spicy, clove, cinnamon stage and dries down to just a fresh spicy carnation. It is fabulous. Www.lorenzovillerosi.com.
Another great one is Comme des Garcon -- Red Series "Carnation" It is delicious and can be found on www.luckyscent.com.
Finally another one to try is L'Aristian.. Ouelliet Sauvage (Wild Carnation) Again... Expensive but a nice one. Unfortunately I heard a rumour they are discontinuing. Ebay is always a great place to try decanted samples.
I am trying to find a comparable lotion and soap in carnation, if anyone knows please contact me. Good luck!

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
I am another woman who has been looking for "Blue Carnation" for years! It was a favorite of my mothers and I began wearing it back in the 60's. It was my signature fragrance for years ~ right up till R&G discontinued it and I could no longer find it any where.

At the time, I bought all of this line I could find and, after all these years, I still have a small bottle of the sachet and two containers of the bath powder ~ all of which have retained their heavenly scent!

While I generally like Caron's fragrances, their Bellodgia doesn't have the same light and uplifting level of spicy carnation that Blue Carnation had. It is just a bit too heavy for my tastes and has not been a suitable replacement for me. I was happen to see the other suggestions posted here and I have ordered Lorenzo Villerosi's "Garafano", Comme des Garcon's "Carnation" and L'Aristian's Ouelliet Sauvage. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival and do hope they will come closer than Caron's Bellodgia.

I also went to R&G's website and on their comments page wrote and asked them to please re-introduce Blue Carnation ~ I've was happily surprised to see so many other woman seeking and think if we we all contact them perhaps they will actually come thru....it's worth a try anyway! Here is the web site address to contact them: http://www.rogergallet.fr/uk/f_n_contacts.htm

Bellodgia was indeed a fine carnation-based fragrance. My grandmother wore it, and I've been wearing it for 40 years. The last two bottles, however, have NOT been the same fragrance. I also love carnation. I was able to buy a bottle of carnation essential oil at the Caswell Massey store in Pittsburgh. They don't have it out on the displays, but back of the counter with the other essential oils. The scent is pure carnation, wondeful! I buy the unscented shower gel and lotion at The Body Shop and add the carnation oil myself, and am very happy with the results. I have made 2 bottles of shower gel and one bottle of lotion and still have 2/3 of the essential oil left.

My aunt used Blue Carnation, and once, on air travel, the top came off of her bottle and her suitcase was soaked in it. Every time she came to visit, this was the scent the came along! She told me the reason why Roger & Gallet took it off the common market was because the Queen herself approproated the fragrance as one of her own, and out of respect, command or otherwise, off the market it went.

This was my signature scent when I was in college in the late 60's and early 70's. It was the perfect slightly androgynous spicy It-girl scent at the time, and I've missed it ever since. Even the still-available Carnation soap from R & G doesn't quite match it. The cologne was so spicy that my brother used to tell me I smelled like Old Spice. There used to be a lovely perfumerie on Royal St. In New Orleans that had both a Carnation scent and a more complex one called Belle Chasse. They were pretty, but didn't have the "edge" of Blue Carnation. I am very heartened to see all the suggestions here, and am about to let my typing fingers check out these websites. Thanks, everyone!

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
Hey, girls listen up.. I got some good news for you..if like carnation fragrances, or fragrances of any kind.. I mean of any kind..at least that's what I think..I discovered the email of a professional parfumeur at Martecci's Fine Fragrances. If you want a blue carnation perfume, a red carnation perfume, or just a simple carnation perfume, I am definitley sure they can help you.. I recommend you ask for Mr. Snider.. He's the chief parfumeur there ..and get this girls...he's single.... Hahhahaha..and ..anyhow...Martecci's always gives the best surprise gifts with every order over $50 and the more your order the better the gifts.. I mean it's better than Cracker Jack....and ..Oh yeah...if you ask me... They offer the best customer service and the best fragrances money can buy.. I mean ..how often can you actually talk with a parfumeur and get a really informed opinion or recommendation? That's what I thought.. Anyhow...they offer thousands of designer type fragrances..some are dupes some are replications..(Replications are better than dupes).. They have their own line of fragrances... And on top of that they offer superior custom designed fragrances services for those who want something unique.. Something noone else has...starting at just $250 .. (I paid only $350 for mine and oh MY MY MY MY MY...oh YEAH.. I LIKES IT..I LIKES IT A LOT.. ) anyhow..they don't have a website..at least not yet.. But they have a private studio and facility in Tulsa..The only way I know how to contact them is through their "whole in the web" email address ...it's martecci@cox.net and you can tell them Linda Johnson sent you if you want. Oh yeah don't forget to ask for Mr. Snider.. And...I don't know what else to say....O.. Yeah. My sister and I are gonna get a Blue Gardenia perfume and a fragrance they have called Taliaferro (the best gardenia scent my sister and I have ever tried) from them for my mom for Mother's Day.. Anyway..I hope I've helped...Later.

I ordered both the carnation oil from berrysweet on ebay and Bellodgia. While Bellodgia is a lovely scent, to me it smells nothing like Blue Carnation. When I put on the carnation oil from berrysweet and waited five minutes it was like I was smelling my mom's tiny little cachet bottle of Blue Carnation. I am giving her the oil and a pretty perfume bottle for Mother's Day and I am so pleased! The Bellodgia I will use for myself, but I also plan on buying another carnation oil from berrysweet to layer it with.

Also a friend told me about a website http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/ , I did a search for carnation and they had 21 different fragrances with carnation in them. I ordered six different "imps" or sample vials to try and will report back when they come!

Karen, 8/4/07 post

Karen, go back to this sites messageboard, & from the top down about 12 posts, read the post by Ms. Lamer on 8/1/07, titled Credit Card Fraud.

The following is just my opinion. On their homepage Vintage Fragrance states they repackage vintage fragrances in new bottles. That's a first Red Flag for me. I've never heard of that practice. If you are buying a true vintage fragrance, it should come in it's original bottle as well. I've seen several posts on this messageboard, both pro & con regarding this particular site. However, some of the pro posts could be an employee of that site trying to drum up customers. That is certainly not an unheard of practice. Also, all that site has are names of the perfumes & a "buy " click on. No pictures, no discription, etc.. I've never purchased from them, & never plan to, as I suspect that they aren't the real deal. Here's why, & is my main Red Flag why I wouldn't take a chance on this site, or others with no more info than they provide. Legit sites provide the following, usually under "contact us."

Email address,
Tollfree ph # & business hours to call that #, either to place an order, if you prefer not ordering online, or have other cust. Service questions,
A full mailing address, w/street address, & not just a po box number,
All shipping and handling fees, & info,
Currency converter for sites that ship internationally,
Many sites you can track your order, once it's shipped. They will give order tracking info when they email you order conformation.
I sure hope you get what you hoped for. There are several sites out there advertising vintage, & they are remakes that can't possibly smell the same, because in order to smell the exact same, they would have to use the original formula, (and many claim to,)which can no longer be used as some of the original ingredients they used to put into perfumes are now illegal to use in perfumes. I would be interested to know how this turns out for you. Perhaps you could let all of us vintage perfume lovers know the end result, & post it on this site. As I said, the above is just my opinion, & I don't claim to speak for anyone else. I wish only positive results for you.

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
Hi Wanda, just wanted to update you on Vintage Fragrances - I did finally receive my blue carnation a week later - but they never replied to my questions regarding shipping, etc. It came in a teeny atomizer, and I THINK it's probably original blue carnation, but very watered down... It doesn't last at all. More diluted than cologne or toilet water. It cost over $80. Sigh. I guess I will have to save it for extremely special occasions. Too bad, it's the only fragrance I've ever found that really works with my body chemistry, I must be pre-determined to wear only carnation. I did see something called Red carnation fragrance that I thought I'd give a try. I am keeping an eye on my credit bill, no suspicious charges yet, but I am worried that down the line something might pop up, as with Ms. Lamer. BTW - I was looking for the Ms. Lamer post you mentioned, and our replies to it, but I can't seem to find it anymore, are they still there?

The latest thing seems to be these essential oils in a diffuser to make your house smell good. My daughter keeps getting them in varying fragrances and most of them make me sick. The only fragrance I would consider having pervade my living space to the extent these do is Blue Carnation. Has anybody seen an essential oil of carnation that might be usable for this purpose?

If I had known as an innocent high school girl that I would never again be able to find Roger & Gallet "Blue Carnation," I would have bought and preserved bottles and bottles. Whenever I'm near a "Bath and Body" or store like that, I ask wistfully "anything in a carnation fragrance"? WHY did they discontinue? I'll never get over this loss.

Has anyone tried scentmatchers.com? I have had decent experiences with Carnation single floral with Hove's Carnation and Floris' Malmaison, but it just doesn't match that special oomph of Blue Carnation. These folks say they can match it, 3 oz. For $60 plus shipping. Don't want to be bilked, but it sure would be nice to see someone make the effort to measure up to Roger & Gallet's masterpiece. By the way, why do R & G still make the soap, but not the perfume? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Carnation Perfume
I remember my Mom had a tiny bottle of Blue Carnation and I loved the scent.
Then Avon had a creme sachet that was carnation and it was my absolute favorite perfume. Then of course it is no longer made.
Oh I read the earlier post that said the Queen claimed the Blue carnation as her own perfume....so is that really true? So when she dies will they develop it for the unroyals. I wish they would bring back the avon one as I have asked many times.

Hi Everyone,

I just discovered this topic because a customer of mine pointed me here today.

My name is Lori and I make Pink Carnation perfume oil and products through my business berrysweetstuff.com. You can find me on Google, Etsy, and Amazon in addtion to my webstore www.berrysweetstuff.com. I honestly have never smelled R&G. My carnation is from my perception of the flower. It took me years to fully grasp, but I have this glorious scent down pat. I have TONS of R&G carnation customers who keep coming back for my more affordable and dead on carnation scent. =)

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
I have missed Blue Carnation for as many years as it's been off the market. I do think the Roger & Gallet Carnation soap brings back the memory, at least, so I've had to content myself with that for a long time. Now I hear that R & G has been bought by a big company (L'Oreal, maybe?) and that they may discontinue the soap as well. Terrible news! I do not have any vested interest in recommending them, but I do want to share that I've just gotten a couple of bottles of caranation cologne from Hove Parfumeurs in New Orleans that do smell very nice and they're not very expensive so you can keep re-spritzing if it doesn't last. It's not Blue Carnation, but it does give some consolation. The people at Hove are quite nice and pack and send with obvious care. The package I received recently smelled like the French Quarter...

Cool! I'm going to look at the Lush site now. The combo of R & G Carnation soap and Hove Carnation cologne has been serving me well lately, but they don't stay with me very long. Actually, I seem to remember that Blue Carnation was "un-smellable" to me after 20 minutes anyway. ;-)

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
Was just reading some posts on this board, and although I'm not familiar with Blue Carnation, I've heard people raving about a product called Potion made by Lush Cosmetics. I believe it is primarily a carnation-based scent, but I know it has a rose note, and most likely some others, as Lush products tend to be somewhat complex in scent.

People on the Lush websites are mad for this product, so much so, that I'm thinking of trying it myself....and no, I don't work for them in any way. Anyway, just thought some of you might want to give it a try too. The lotion, as well as perfume and a solid perfume are available sometimes on Ebay. Lush.com has the lotion in stock right now, but I'm not sure about the perfumes.

I did a search myself and came up with this company " Denham's Natural in AZ ( USA), they carry many more soap and bath products even " Carnation", perfume and body creams, including other great soaps; Daffodil, Forget Me Not; Gardenia; Geranium; Ginger Lily; Apple Blossom to name a few. Go to www.Denham's Natural.com or call 1+800-341-2799. I hope that this helps everone looking for " carnation" soap agian.

Re: Why Not Carnation Fragrance???
Wow - I was on my way to bed an hour ago when I decided to do a "quick" search on Blue Carnation yet again. I can't believe I haven't found this "conversation" before!

I have read it all from the top and have found "my people". My story is much the same, loving it, buying it, then finding only the soap. Just a quick post script to the saga -

About 2 years ago, my husband was in Paris for about 48 hours. As a surprise for me, he made it his quest to find Roger and Galet and bring me Blue Carnation. With the help of a french-speaking friend, they called the R&G headquarters and found that they are not a perfume company, their main products are soaps and powders and they sell mostly to pharmacies. He found the perfume was indeed discontinued a couple of decades ago. He also went to several parfumeries & asked if there were any other carnation scents. He said he got a resounding "NO", as if something that simple was below them. I was disappointed when I heard the outcome, but he got huge points for the effort!

I have jotted down all the suggestions and am going to try a couple. Thank you all for suggestions - I will check back from time to time.

I too am just now looking (again) for carnation perfume. I loved the Avon one in the 60's and 70's and carnation flowers were beautiful back then. Kids today have no idea what they smell like.
I know eBay has carnation perume oil, but not sure what it is like. I even emailed Yankee Candles to make a carnation candle, plug-in, spray etc.
I usd to buy carnation talc for 28 cents at Woolworths in the 70's and h-u-g-e container and it was glorious. Hope you find it and if you do, please let me know.
Frankly, I can't understand discontinuing something that sells so well....like Heaven Sent and Apple Blosso by Helena Rubenstein.....I adored them and so unusual.
Well, check eBay UK where I am. You may get lucky..just looked here is a couple of item numbers for you 300353587390 and 350347444316...all the best
