Autumn & Winter Scents...
Well, Ladies...it's the First Day of Autumn - ah, the Harvest Season, full of Colours, Music, Arts, Excitement, start of the Holiday Season; the air is becoming a bit brisk, and the Nights are longer, things go at a faster pace...
But anyway, lest I wax too poetic, I was thinking about Fragrances, and I like certain Perfumes/Fragrances/Scents for when the weather becomes chilly...especially the Heavier ones. I mean, most of us like to wear the lighter fragrances in the Spring and Summer, but we don't always consider what are the 'ideal' (strictly subjective, of course) fragrances for when the weather turns chilly.
I am partial to Orientals - those Fragrances that tend to be a bit heavier and longer-lasting. Now, while not all in my list, are in that category, these scents evoke a feeling of a change of Season; of anticipation (well, at least to me!) ....Ah, Autumn, a season of mellow mists and fruitfulness...(Keats)
On my list of favourites is:
Lanvin - Arpege, My Sin, Rumeur, etc
Faberge - Tigress
Coty - Imprevu (this was a strange but captivating one)
Lancome - Magie Noire
Tom Ford - Moss Breche
Guerlain - Shalimar
Prince Matchabelli - Cachet
Chanel No 22, No 5
Dana - Tabu
Malle - Iris Poudre (A Class Act!)
Nina Ricci - Farouche, Nina, L'Air Du Temps
Jean D'Albret - Ecusson, Casaque
Avon - Brocade (YES, it was beautiful!)
Menley & James - Eau De Love (For some strange reason, I always wore this Cologne when Winter was at its coldest, and then went Ice Skating...go figure!)
Carven - Ma Griffe
Jean Patou - Joy (just a dab will do ya!)
Coty - Jungle Gardenia (An Ode to 'Flower Power')
Germaine Monteil - Bakir (This one is REALLY STRONG!)
Elizabeth Arden - Blue Grass (Well,I liked this one for Chilly weather too!)
Estee' Lauder - Youth Dew (Another powerful one - some people told me that it was TOO overpowering, but I didn't care!)
Revlon - Moon Drops (Who could forget this one! It was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to wash off! The Scent lingered for weeks on end, even after the clothes were laundered! Now that's staying POWER!) Scent was really beautiful, though!
Millot - Crepe de Chine (So classy & refined!)
Molyneux - Vivre (I got this one for my Aunt when I was in Paris, and later got hooked on it myself!)
Norell (One of the few well-known American Perfumes - it's still made and it goes a long way)
Well, that's some of my List (Yes, there are others, but they don't come to mind at this moment!) It's an expensive habit, most of the time, but since we're on this Perfume Blog, you know it's a habit that brings a lot of joy, and it's hard to break. But if you're choosy, and KNOW what suits you, a Good Perfume/Fragrance can last you a long time!
The memories these Fragrances bring forth are priceless to me, which is why, I think, scent not only permeates the nose, but the Mind and the Soul of the Wearer and those around them! It is an Art to be enjoyed and kept alive!
Until next time...
A bien tot, Mon Amis! Vive Les Parfums de Coeur et ame!!!! |
