GEOFFREY BEENE'S RED PERFUME

Red by G. Beene from the 70s/80s was an incredible scent. I contacted the company and they just told me it was discontinued and unavailable. Any suggestions? I also love Fath de Fath EDP....another fabulous scent which is also fading out. Any help is appreciated

Susan, I agree, RED by G.Beene was incredible, in fact it's disappearance has led me to want to create perfumes myself.I'm searching for a bottle to analyze. My sister, whom I had given a bottle to, led me to 1000 by Jean Patou which is similar but not exactly 'RED'. Anyone who has any information on this fragrance[ the 'nose' who designed it ] or anything else to unravel the mystery of it's fate?! Robert

Hi Robert - Thanks for your input and shared sentiment. It's so disappointing and just a mite frustrating when you finally find a delectable fragrance that blends so well with your chemistry and then...it disappears never to be seen again. I have read a description of our RED which reads 'Top notes citrusy and spicy, with elegant floral middle notes, and base notes are mossy and woody.' I will certainly keep in touch with this board should ever a source for this beautiful perfume emerge. Please do keep in touch...and many blessings to all.

Re: GEOFFREY BEENE'S RED PERFUME
I am also a grieving fan of Geoffry Beene's Red fragrance! There is an outfit who buys recipes of discontinued fragrances and remakes them. Look up Irma Shorrell and request Red. When I contacted them about it, they replied that they did not get that many requests for it so they won't even consider it. They have re-produced such fragrances as: Cher's Uninhibited, Deneuve, Memoire Cherie, Maroc, Tuxedo, etc. It's a start! They use the original recipes and they are good! Apparently, the gentleman who heads up Irma Shorrell used to work for the Geoffrey Beene Co. And he said Beene got into financial trouble in the early 80's and sold the "Red" name to Giorgio for their perfume. Apparently the original Red was produced from 1976 to 1982. That's all I know. The scent to my nose was rose, violet, oakmoss mainly. What a lovely dry down it had! I think they slightly changed the formula using less oakmoss when they changed the clear square shaped bottle to the red octagonal bottle with the black tasseled cap. That's all I know about this magnifiscent! Regards, Trish

I forgot to mention that Red was made to be the perfect compliment to Grey Flannel.

Re: GEOFFREY BEENE'S RED PERFUME
I to am a fan of Red. I still have my very last bottle I bought back in the 80's. Even though it's all gone I open the bottle and it still has the incredible scent it had back when I bought it! Hopefully one day it will make a new debut, till then at least I can open the bottle and reminisce. There is nothing out there like this, believe me I keep trying every time I'm near a fragrance counter.
