I am also looking for "STYX, Spell-Spinning Spray" in a dark brown spray bottle. Does anyone know who makes it and how to find it?

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Hi, I too love the old ones. I especially loved Helena Rubenstein's Heaven Sent and Apple Blossom. I used them all the time back then.
No one has created this exact fragrance to date. So many today are the same cheap florally smell that are just awful. There are a few great ones, but not many. I found your email as I too was looking for Styx. Another I loved that was taken off the market way too soon was Toccara by Avon and made in 1981. It was another rare and beautiful fragrance. I asked if they would bring it back, but NO! was the reply.
So many gorgeous fragrances. My friend in the US also loved "Mistletoe" by Jovan. She, like us is floored that she can't get it any longer. I guess like brialliant women of a certain age, we get thrown onto the scrap heap along with our glorious and wonderful perfumes. What a shame to both.

I found a 1 oz bottle of Styx that I'd be willing to part with (i have a load of minis that I'd rather keep). Contact me @ sueduran@buckeye-express.com. I"ll post it in e-bay if no one is interested...I LIVED in Styx for years & it's so good to smell it again. Brings back memories. I'd love to find the Green Apple, too.

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Coty had an older Styx and I wouldn't be able to tell if I liked it or not if I smelled it now because age probably would have killed it. Same with their Styx that they came out in the 70s with which came in a black opaque bottle.........I absolutely LOVED it and lived in it and would wear no other scent! I tried an online formulary that said they could duplicate the scent, but didn't like it at all when I got it........wonder if it was the older Styx, which I never smelled, or they just sent me any old thing. I even tried writing Coty a few times over the years begging them to come back with it, or at least give me the formula so maybe I could have it made on my own, but no use. I think Coty makes the best scents because they are so unique.........most perfumes all smell alike......they have no character.

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Chris- After 2 years, I came across some Styx Spell Spinning Spray in the original box AND the original black bottle w/ white logo, white heart "devil" tail & "spell casting" intructions. It smelled EXACTLYl like I remembered, unlike the 50's versions, which were always disappointing (not as layered or sharp and let's face it, old). Personally, I think they changed the formula a bit prior to the 1971 rerelease(which is also when they put it in the cream form....though god only knows how dried up that stuff must be by now!!). I'm wondering if one was able to send some of the original 70s formula to one of these chemists if they could recreate it better than working off a 50's version or faulty recipes or whatever. I do know that Styx has a ton of ingredients that give it its depth and sharpness.See, I have had some reproductions that I was VERY happy with-- really "on the money" & others that weren't. I have 3 oz of good Styx spray, so cd spare a little, but I do not know which chemist is reputable! Does anyone have any experience w/ this? I've read that if they work from the original fragrance, they can get very, very close & I think that by having the Styx that I have IN the box IN the black bottle a in spray form(less air gets in?), it's as close as I'll ever get since Coty/Pfize/Rallet wont' respond.
. I'd appreciate the help of anyone who knows about reproduction chemists.Susan D.

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Vintage perfumes is a huge disappointment . I ordered styx and just received it .It smells absolutely nothing like it . It is a washed out stinky weak smell. I apparently will lose my $21.19 in shipping and will have to ship the sh-t back at my expense. I hope I will get my $69. Back. I hesitated but made the wrong choice in ordering this. I would not trust vintage again. There is no phone number to call them . I hope all the scammers get what they deserve in the end.

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Styx was discontinued by 1956, then revived again for the last time in 1971 by Pfizer-Coty. It was available in 3 oz black bottles called Styx Eau de Mischief Splash and Styx Spell-Spinning Spray.

The Splash is what I "lived" in! Yes, I too was taken by the $69.00 bottle from the place that said they could reproduce it. Either it's a ripoff - or - the "initial" Styx really smelled like that.......crappy. If so, thank God they changed it in the 70's.
Here are 2 pictures of our beloved Styx from the 70's, followed by a link of the ingredients (I could not find a pic of the regular black bottle "Splash" I used to buy but I "do" remember the spray):

The 1970's Styx was under Coty when they were Coty Pfizer so I wondered who would have the formula: Coty or Pfizer....you would "think" Coty because their name was on it.
As far as having a bottle of the spray and taking it to someone who can duplicate, I don't know if that would even be possible because there are many ingredients and I don't know if they could determine the ratio of each. Here they are:
Ingredients (I assume these are for the 1970's Styx and not the older vintage one):

Wikipedia tells about the different companies that were involved and what time periods:

"Ici" is also by Coty and a very nice vanilla scent that I've received compliments on.........you can still get it. BUT I MISS MY STYX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan: maybe if you called a big perfume company, they would tell you of a good reproduction chemist.

Re: STYX PERFUME BY COTY
Chris- I think I will try to get ahold of the guy at Long Lost Perfumes who is very knowlegeable and has been quite accessible and helpful. He's responsible for bringing back my beloved Casaque (by Jean D'Albret...I used to sell it behind the glass case in a chi-chi dept. Store next to the Lancome, back in the days when Pantene was a department store item, too, complete w/hair analysts. Did we get ripped off more now or then???). This guy & his Co. Also brought Madeleine Mono's fragrance back on the market (I'd never tried it before....it's yummy and super long lasting). It sounds like this company that people are referring to -- I've seen their ads too -- that advertises re-creations is not the best. I've had "bad" vintage Styx before,so I know that what I have now is the real deal. I thing the key is getting a spray to knockout the air factor and having dark glass+ original box to mitigate light. STILL I fear that the actual recipe may be needed....unless they can do things lke they do w/DNA these days -- who knows what they can do.Because the Casaque I recieved from Long Lost Perfumes is EXACTLY as I remembered and it was only $55...about what it cost in the 80s... And the LLP guy seems quite trustworthy if I can find him. It seems like there is a solid market already & if they did a little goth twist marketing STYX, all the goth teens would want it too. A spell on your boyfriend? What could be more appealling to a 15 yr old? I'll try this guy first before I brave the switchboard of a "BIG" company that will probably think I'm trying to steal secrets. Anything you find through your own research, please let me know. I know the market is out there....it's just that too many people got ripped off by soured & originally very different 1950s bottles & gave up. If they can break everything else down to each ingredient, molecule by molecule, why not perfume? Maybe what I really need is a forensic lab...or maybe I should try some compounding pharmacies? Ideas? Susan (P.S. In the meantime, I think we should all learn to keep our fragrances in their boxes and away from light!)
