Eau De Love Petition

Please sign my petition if you would like to see a relaunch of Eau de Love. I am trying to get at least a thousand signatures. It will be printed out and sent to Dana Classic Fragrances.

I wore this in the early 70's and have been scaning sites looking with HOPE, for an antique bottle to buy off ebay or etc. That's how I found you. PUT ME DOWN for one VOTE.....AND...please let me know if they get off their duff and bring it out AGAIN

I just googled Eau De Love to see if is still being sold somewhere and I saw this post. My grandmother bought me this perfume in the 70's and I loved it. I cant tell you how many bottles of perfume I have and dont wear because they all give me a headache. Good luck with getting the signatures

No, we're not talking about eau de love fresh lemon. That came out a little while after the first eau de love. Sorry if this dissapoints. Eauu de love, love's babbysoft, and love's fresh lemmon came out within a couple of years of one another,, and were all produced by love products. Best wishes

Gayle - Do you mean Love's Eau de Love or Love's Fresh Lemon? Definitely different products but made by the same company, Menley & James. I'm not sure myself just when they came out, but...you might try asking a reference librarian at your local public library. You wouldn't BELIEVE the trivia they can track down. No, I'm not a librarian, but my mom is (retired.)

I bought it at the beginning of the month, and, instead of being the haunting scent of the original, it's a very loud cheap gardinia scent. I sent it back immediately, but they didn't refund my money. They haven't answered my emails either. I would stay away from them.

I'm adding my name to your petition as well. I also ordered the Timeless Perfumes version of Eau de Love. It definitely is not the same as I remember. Gave me a headache when I wore it. Am also returning it. Don't waste your money or your time.

I would love Eau De Love perfume back! It was reasonably priced and everyone loved the smell. I would welcome it. They also made a Baby Love. But the original Eau De Love. Later on the mixture seemed changed too strong. The original was the best! Thanks!

In any case, I used 'Eau de Love' when I was in High School, and it was manufactured by Menley & James.

It's been a long while....
To answer your questions on Menley and James: Dana bought the whole M
& J Love's line formulary some years ago, so they are the owners to that fragrance now. I have to contact Dana Classic Fragrances to ask them.
OR, even better...
If you are interested in bringing back Eau De Love, call their company at (954) 725-2668. I really don't want to gamble $100+ on something from eBay that might end up being bottled bilge-water.

I think it might have been in'05 that I first signed up as one of the thousand supporters after reading about your interest in getting the support!!!!!! Oh my God!!! I'm so thrilled to see so many other women out there who remember and want to bring back both Eau de Love & Love's Fresh Lemon back...Please Dana/Coty, Please I'm begging you, please work to bring it back. I recently found Love's Baby Soft in my local Rite Aid Drug Store, it's authentic on application, but doesn't last at all. It doesn't have enough essential oils; please 'rework' it or develop a perfume or eau de perfume. I smelled a scent EXACTLY like Love's Fresh Lemon in a woman's product today and it took me back to the 70's and I decided to look for something like this message board. Please keep me posted. PLEASE!!!

Information is critical for Dana to POSSIBLY bringing Eau de Love back!! As one of my previous post stated... STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! Let Dana know there is an interest and it will be successful! I told Angie demographics would be 48 - 60 yr olds. Let's not be apathetic!!

Well...number has been changed. If you want to call Dana (and we ALL should) it is 954-725-6829! I just had a chat with Angie and she said that Dana did a survey and the response was not great. I was shocked and I told her demographics would be the boomers. She is going to pass along info to product development. I also gave her this website! Maybe we have a shot once again! Positive thoughts...law of attraction!

If I could remake Eau de Love perfume myself I would. There is definetely a market here. If so many of us loved it in the 70's then it stands to reason that a whole new generation will also love it. A wonderful scent like Eau de Love will stand the test of time. Take a chance perfume manufacturers you will see!!!! Monica

My husband, who is 52, remembers loving the scent of Eau de love and, UNBELIEVABLY FOR A MAN, actually remembers the name. I've never tried it but would be thrilled to wear a perfume that evokes good memories for my man. Count me in.

I replied not too long ago but do not see my original message on this board.
I have been searching so long for this scent. My step mother would wear it when she first came into our family and I asked her what it was. Eau De Love ! "Eau de birds, eau de flowers... "Ha, it was a clean, fresh scent. I would buy a case if it was available again. Please bring it back! I am 45 yrs of age and would agree that all ages would love it.

I know we all claim we feel passionate about this, but it was very strange to me that when I phoned Dana a few weeks ago with the number posted here, the woman was very surprised to hear about all the interest in bringing back eau de Love. She said that she had heard something about a petition, but has gotten no calls on it. She asked for the site and said that should there be a resounding interest they would look into a re-launch, but at this time it wasn't likely. We had a nice, long chat and I feel that she was sincere. I think on their part they would be crazy not to consider it, should there be an AVALANCHE of interest. Please, please please..make it happen. Take a few minutes and pass the number along to as many people as you can think of and let's show DANA that we are sincere.

Sorry I took so long to respond - they don't always notify us when someone responds to a thread.

But that said, I DO think that People are responsive, but the problem is, that most of them think that it won't do any good because the 'Powers That Be' - The BIG Perfume/Fragrance Companies - want to sell Scents at a very High Profit to them, but make a scent with 'cheap' ingredients. They figure that People - nowadays - won't 'KNOW' the difference and they'll use 'anything' that's the latest trend....But 'THEY" forgot one thing.....US!!!!! Which is why we're HERE on this Blog - we DO KNOW the difference and what makes a 'TIMELESS' Fragrance!!!!

Some of these Perfume/Scent Companies/Moguls are so DENSE - they could make a Great Fortune, if ONLY they gave the Public - (US) what we want - and if they kept it at a FAIR PRICE - they would have SO many Orders that they wouldn't be able to keep up.

But anyway, that's my rant - All of you will notice all the wonderful Scents of the past, that have been discontinued, yet they're as popular as ever, so why discontinue them in the first place? GREED - so they can drive up the prices. It isn't enough for them to make a Profit, they have to KILL in Profits, and so, we 'pine' and yearn for Scents long gone.

So, the thing is...let's keep on asking for the Scents we love.

I tried to call Dana and speak with the contact person and left a message. That was quite awhile ago so I'll do it again! When anyone posts a message to this I get an email and I got a LOT of them today - getting my hopes up.

By replying does this mean I'm signing the petition or do I need to do something else here?

Please bring Eau de Love BACK!
If they need a celebrity to sell it maybe we could find one to endorse it - does anyone know anyone?

I went to the message board and saw a post from a chemist that will work on recreating discontinued perfumes. He needs some of the original though!

Has anyone already tried this? I kept a copy if anyone out there has some of the Eau de Love fragrance, I could contact him to get the scoop. Just reply to this and I'll write back.

I "love" that we al have renewed our passion theses past few days! I remember when I was on a quest to find Geminesse, (another 1970's favorite of mine) and finally located a mini-bottle on E-Bay, paid I think $25 for it and it was totally rancid. Apparently it was opened and not un-used as it claimed. Beware of "vintage" perfumes, like our beloved "Eau de Love" from less than scrupulous sellers. I think there is a lot of truth to what Donna said about high-end fragrances resulting in HUGE profits but let's face it Dana is not D&G or Chanel. As I said in a prior post, us "boomers" are the ones with the $$$, and Dana would benefit greatly in honouring our reqeust.

Unfortunately there are problems buying "real" fragrances on eBay, all of which I've run into, (such as fakes, rancid product, diluted product, etc.), so be real careful. As a cosmetics salesperson for almost 10 years, I've learned that the shelf life of a fragrance is 3 years at best, and that is the fragrance being kept in optimum conditions (tightly closed, in the dark, with regular, consistent humidity and temperature). Anything after 3 years is going to be questionable, simply because of breakdown in the fragrance's chemical composition. Even if there ever is a relaunch of an old favorite, it might not smell as we once remember it due to the use of synthetics and new technology, or even environmental factors such as pollution in the use of natural essences.

My advice...don't buy it from Timeless Fragrances as I had...it has a very overpowering fragrance and does not even come close to Eau de Love! If you like the odor (sorry it is the only word I could use) of a very strong gardenia you may like it though.

Wow! I have been searching for this perfume for decades to no avail. I used to wear it in the 70's and really loved it. I remember there was Eau de Love and some kinda Lemon Fresh fragrance by the same manufacturers, right?

I loved the fragrance Eau de Love. I would love to see it relaunched. I found a bottle in an antique store. I was so excited to see it. Even though it had become somewhat less of what its fragrance had been because it was so old I could however still smell it and it brought back so many memories.I have searched the internet trying to find it with no luck. I can't believe what I'm reading here!!! I have been dreaming about this fragrance for YEARS!!! So glad to know I'm not alone, but how could I be? This was the best scent EVER! Have spent hundreds of dollars on perfumes now that I'm all grown up, and all I really want is this simple and awesome one that I wore in high school. To recall a fragrance this vividly for this long really means something, and it's a lot more than just the great memories of the times. PLEASE !!!! BRING BACK EAU DE LOVE !!!

I was obsessed with finding this perfume about a year ago (late night searching the web). I found a perfume site(cant remember the name) who made something similar, so they said. When I received it and ripped open the package to get the firs sniff, I did get a glimpse of the original scent but it quickly turned into something else. I dont wear it but I do get a quick fix once in a while. If it was made again I would buy it in a split second. It is weird how I can actually smell it as I write this

I wore eau de love as a teen and will never forget the fragrance. I am now 52 and through the years have searched everywhere for it. My boyfriend loved the smell so much that he would spray it on his own winter scarf. If I could find it again, I would never wear anything else. Darla

A guy I dated a while back worked as a perfume distributor for Love products. He found and got for me a few bottles of Eau De Love perfume. When I opened it and smelled it, I burst into tears... It was like my grandmother was right there. She is the one who gifted me with this perfume back in the 70's. I miss her so much, and would love to have the feeling of closeness with her that this perfume brings to my spirit.

Last year for Val Day, my honey [who rembembers the scent TOO!]...bought me some REAL E D L perfume from one of those 'antique/collectable' fragrance sites that repackage it in a nice bottle in a red leather box. He paid over $100.00 for it.

It did NOT smell ANYTHING like it!!! I was so disappointed ...I did not have the HEART to tell him. [that was a LOT of money for him.]

When he asks why I don't wear it very often, I just tell him I am hording it for, 'VERY Special Occassions.'

One day I was wearing "Philosophy, The Fragrance" and he said to me: "What's the very special occassion?"...and I realized, it DID smell like E D L 'used to' on me.

You can buy Philosophy, The Fragrance at dept stores [or on QVC,]...stop by and give it a smell on yourself. It is REALLY cose.

Well ladies, I wrote once again to Dana and had a more positive response this time! Customer service said that they would pass on my request to production......last response was there was no plans for the production of our favorite scent.....we can only hope! Please keep up the emails and phone calls to Dana customer service.....they can't (or shouldn't) ignore several hundred eager women's pleas!!!!!!!

I would love it if they brought back Eau De Love. I still have an old bottle that I cherish that barely has the beautiful fragrance of the perfume. I wore it as a teenager in the seventies. It was my boyfriends favorite perfume on me. It would bring back alot of special memories if they brought it back. This was the one fragrance I could wear with out any problems, and I love the smell, as did my male friends. I bought my first bottle in 1971 while working for Lasalle & Kook in Toledo, Ohio. I have not found a fragrance that is compatible with me since. Thank You for trying to bring it back.

I got some Philosophy the Fragrance, and when I smelled the opened container, it brought back Eau de Love for me. Unfortunately, on me at least, it was too dry and actually too masculine (smells like a cologne my male boss wears). I remember EDL as being sweeter. Oh well... Maybe I'll try Eau d'Hadrien.

I noticed a couple of great suggestions for an Eau de Love substitute, so that type of feedback is always appreciated. I haven't tried any of them but Pleasures, and I must agree that Pleasures is very close. Others listed were:

Also, stay away from these people who are offering "designer fakes" of Eau de Love- several posters have tried them and either received a product that is nothing like Eau de Love, been ripped off, or both. I myself bought the Eau de Love oil from belle-star.com, and it absolutely stinks! NOTHING like our beloved Eau de Love. ( I was too chicken to spend $100 from timeless.com, but I am sorry to say someone here did and they got royally shafted.)

My favorite scent EVER, by FAR! I too have been hoping it would come back since the 70's. The closest perfume I have found that sort of smells like it is Jessica McClintock (the original scent). But, would much prefer Eau de Love..."eau 'da stars that shine above, eau 'da smell of Eau de Love!!

I had many bottles of Eau de Love perfume,it was my absolute favorite, I was probably a sophomore in high school when I wore it, 1970. I wonder if my memory of loving it would still be the same now if it ever comes out again. Seems like there is a huge market for it, anyone want to invest? lol If they won't bring it back,we'll have to do it ourselves.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Why was this fabulous fragrance ever discontinued? Whenever I wore it, I was accosted by strangers asking me what it was. It was a light, clean refreshing scent with a hint of intoxicating moonflower. Please bring it back!

Great news! A new perfume just released this September 2009, by Issey Miyake called "Scent", smells just like Eau de Love. I mail ordered it based on rave reviews- I had not ever sampled it. When I sprayed it on I was instantly transported back to the 1970's. Although I couldn't remember the name at first, I knew it was my favorite perfume-now long discontinued- Eau de Love. They say you never forget a scent... Issey Miyake either found the original formula for good old Eau de Love and thought my generation was past remembering or magically invented a mixture that smells exactly like Eau de Love without realizing it. The down side is that it costs lots more than Eau de Love did and is only available at Neiman Marcus or Bloomindales in the store or on-line. But you can experience that wonderful, one-of-a-kind Eau de Love frangrance again in Issey Miyake's "SCENT". It is all the sweeter this time around as it takes me back to my teenage years in the 1970's as nothing else can.

My mother wants this for X-mas and the closest thing I can find is an imitation for fifty bucks! She tells me this was her favorite perfume when she was growing up, but she never actually owned a bottle because her family didn't have a lot of money. She has worked hard all her life and is now able to treat herself and I want her to open up an ORIGINAL bottle on Christmas morning!!

I can't believe nobody has recreated this fragrance, since it doesn't look like Dana (or whoever they were sold to) wants to bring it back.

Especially since SO many boomers are clammering for it, like me! I'm 54 as well, and this scent will make me feel like I'm 16 again.

Please bring it back!!

I wore eau de love also, it was my one and only perfume back in the 70's. Light, crisp and fresh with floral undertones. My husband loved it on me. We will be married 35 years coming up. Wish I could buy it again. Pleasures is close but stronger than eau de love. I could splash that all over and not overwhelm. Most perfumes give me a headache. I wish they would bring it back too, along with Love's a little color!

I tried the Issey Miyake fragrance, and while it does remind me of a 70's fragrance, it turned on me faster than a contestant on "Survivor"!
I'll have to continue my search, or if I get completely fed up, I'll find some way to make my own!

I so hope they bring back that fragrance. There was nothing quite as fresh and young as Eau de Love. I remember buying up all I could find when they stopped making it. My supply ran out years ago.

Please make this fragrance again, exactly as it was. It would definitely be a best seller.

Eau de Love was my signature scent in the 70's. I lived overseas for 3 years and had my mom send it to me regularly because it was not available in Europe. I would LOVE to see a return of this wonderful fragrance.

I also really liked Bonne Bell "Skin" (not Skin Musk that came out later) - also long gone!

Barbara, Menley and James was the original developer and it has passed through different companies. Currently, Dana has the rights, BUT will not manufacture for some unknown reason....VERY dumb!

My bottle of Eau de Love arrived today!!!It is the real thing. I am SO excited. Now I just have to figure out how to make it last FOREVER!!!They would make such a killing if they brought it back. The original commercial could even just be run... No expense for making a new one Remember ? Wow...I cannot believe that I just stumbled on this board. It was the first thing that came up in my web search for Love's Fire Scent, which I loved so much that I still have my empty bottle.

I remember Eau De Love too. It was a wonderful frangrance and I'd buy it if it was available right now!

But then, there are several Love's fragrances I'd like to wear again. Like everyone else has said about them....what memories they bring back!

I'm going to write an e-mail to Dana too!

I want to see them bring back Eau De Love and Love's Fire Scent.

There is a bottle of Eau de Love Perfume for auction on Ebay now. Auction still has about 5 days to go and bids are already up to $137....and it's so obvious that the stuff has gone bad....it's dark brown in the bottle. I guess some people just want the bottles!

Just signed the petition- and made my daughter too! I once a few years ago wrote a letter to Dana, begging them to bring Love back. I was ignored...sigh... Had a friend who had a bottle of this back in about 1981, and that was the last I ever saw of it. It is ever fresh in my mind; my first introduction into scent that was not for my mother (chanel No. 5, Woodhue, Evening in Paris) Eau de Love was such a fork in the road for young women.

It was such a wonderful scent---and it has the ability to transform all us 50+ women back to the seventies when we were teens and life was GREAT.
Also, I have a special place in my heart for Love's Baby Soft cologne--any chance of that fragrance being reintroduced?

Although I was too young back in the early 70's to experience Eau de Love fragrance, I do remember Love's Fresh Lemon and would love to get my hands on each of these again, especially the Eau de Love just to experience first-hand what all of you are raving about - I trust it's great! I recently purchased C.O. Bigelow's Lemon 1999 and love the scent (especially after the dry-down) but it doesn't last very long.

Could someone please describe what Eau de Love smelled like? Were there any particular notes or flowers that stood out?

If you go to the petition site, it has a place where you can share this on myspace, facebook, etc. If you're on a social networking site and have friends who remember and love this fragrance, link to it and ask them to sign the petition. I don't know any better way to reach a lot of people than having those of us who don't know each other spread the word among our own "groups".

Also, I'm lucky enough to have some of this wonderful scent. I've got both the Menley and James and MEM versions in a couple of little spray bottles. However, I'm NOT a good "nose". Can anyone on here identify the notes in the perfume? I know it's floral, and I'm guessing that from the era, it also had some patchouli and possibly musk as base notes. I'm not able to distinctly identify exactly what florals are in the mix, though. Maybe if we could figure it out we could find someone who plays around with perfumery and see if they can reconstruct it.

I believe the "notes" were listed, if I remember correctly, on the side of the box, if that's any help. I'm pretty sure it has a citrus element in their somewhere.
