List All Discontinued Scents You'd Like Back!

Why don't we build a "database" of all the discontinued scents we'd like to have back? Maybe then we could start efforts to get them back. I know there are tons of them, but I don't have the time to go through every posting there is, so maybe just a simple list with name of perfume and manufacturer....that way everything would be in one string and we might be able to help each other better.

Sound like a good idea? Let me know what you think about trying to at least get 1 board that would have all names on it. I don't want to do away with the others, but this one could be a "quick refererence board".

Desperately looking for 2 colognes that have been discontinued and have been unsuccessful in loacating...

1. Musk Solid Cologne in black compact, circa late 1970's, unknown manufacturer...last located it in a small, private pharmacy (by my surprise delight!) in 1993, so it was manufactured at least into the early 90's. Anyone can help me find this, would surely appreciate any and all leads!!!

2. Sonoma eau de toilette spray cologne, manufactured and sold at Kohl's department stores in late 90's to early 2000.

Absolutely loved these scents and would pay about anything to secure a bottle or two...thanks!

Yes, Max Factor made a Strawberry Musk, it was available back in the 70's, it's fragrance was too die for!!!!!

My mother used to use it in the bath, at that time it was called lacpinine. Lactopine was what I always used in my bath with fond memories of my mother,and now my kids remember the smell of the baths I took while they grew up. I still miss it and am looking every where possible. H E L P !

Tribu eau de parfum- totally different from the still-available edp
Woodhue! I still remember that wood-grain cap, the way it spun off when I would sneak some from my mother's make-up table; it would get all over my hands. Strange to think it was a 'drugstore' fragrance- it was wonderful.
Tigress- to me, this was the grown-up, city living 'older sister' of Woodhue.
Gosh, I miss the Tribu edp. It was spicy/sweet but not cloying. It was the BEST!
This is kind of lame 'help', but Suzanne, I did see Ici and Fire and Ice on the internet- I just can't remember where- I'm sorry. But I DID see them! good luck

Would love to have Jovan's Fankincense & Myrhh again. The first time I smelled it was on my ex-husbands (a musician) shirt after a gig one night. Hated whoever put it there but sure loved the scent. I wore it until I couldn't find it anymore. Also Body Shop's Mostly Musk. Now I'm back to Patchouli.

I Want My Styx Back!
Started wearing this in the 70's when I was in the 6th or 7th grade. Must have thought I was hot stuff. LOL I've thought about that fragrance a lot over the years. Funny the things we remember. Anyone know the story behind it? I know it's been around since the early 1900's Happy Holidays everyone! I think I'll go "thrill of the hunt"ing right now!

Whatever happened the original Love's perfume? I believe it was the very first one, before the "Baby Soft" etc. I love it to this day. Why in the world did they stop making it? I can't find any info on it at all! Weird!

Along with Aramis Chromatics, I used to use a wonderful fragrance named Andromeda. It came in two sizes, both with very extravagant packaging. There doesn't seem to be any trace of it on the Net - anyone else remember it?

Check out vermontcountrystore.com. They have a few hard to find perfumes - Tigress, Woodhue, Sweet Earth in two scent collections..I'm looking for Sweet Earth Gingergrass in a spray bottle. When Coty discontinued it, I wrote them and I bought about eight bottles from their stock and that was the last I saw of it. Really miss it!

Here go's silent night, midnight, mystic musk oil, apple oil patchouli oil, flamebeau, patchouli wild musk oil, sandlewood oil, these were from the 70s, tweed colonge too!! those were the best years thats for sure, o.m.g. I see so many scents on others' lists that I miss, here goes mine:

All the Coty Sweet Earth scents, especially Ginger Grass and Mimosa.
Love's Fresh Lemon
Golden Autumn
Avon's Sonnet and all their flower scents from the 70s: Apple Blossom, Raining Violets, and Honeysuckle in particular.
Coty's musk oil in the little black glass bottles. They had ambergris and civet too, as I recall.
Styx
Ambush
But most of all, one of my very most favorite perfumes of all time: Most Precious, by Evyan.

To all who are looking for Shalimar perfume or cologne, it is not discontinued. Sephora, Macys, Bloomingdales, Amazon and any other department stores carry this fragrance. You can even purchase it online via Sephora or Amazon. Hope this helps. Good luck & happy shopping.

Can anyone tell me what this perfume was? My stepmother got it as a present in 1966 and thought it was overwhelming, so she gave it to me to wear w/ jeans and sneakers as an 11-year-old tomboy for fun, and I loved it. It was Parisian, and the bottle was cobalt blue glass, squat, on a pedastal, with a fake gold leaf covering (gold outside, brilliant dark blue inside), and the stopper was dome-shaped. The scent was intense, maybe musky, not very floral and not old-ladyish. Based on the look of the thing I think it may have been something called Gamine, which I saw in a perfume book on display at a vintage perfume store in Montmartre. I have NO other clues. This is one of those transport-me-back-to-childhood things. Thanks!

THE "ORIGINAL" AVIANCE NIGHT MUSK, By Prince Matchebelli. I don't know why they ever changed the formula! The newer stuff doesn't even come close! I won't buy the new version. I used to get compliments all day...(and night)!! Somehow it gave me a certain attitude and confidence! I REALLY miss it!

I would love to see 'Innocent' come back. It was a body spray sold by walmart back in the 90's. I absolutley loved it!! It was sold in a pink can, no other packaging, don't know the manufact.

In the mid-seventies, I really liked a men's fragrance called "Male Chauvinist Pig". I remember that it was wonderful, and that I gave it as a gift. Has anyone else heard of this; or, have I dreamt this up?!

Hi everyone, to the person looking for the orginial Love, that was called " Love by O de London Yardley" that was my favorite, I have been searching for it for 40 years! Can't get it!! Us girls wore it as teenagers. I can still see the bottle! It was like a light light green color with a silver top. Gosh I wish I could get my hands on that! The only place they sold it was Hess Department Store. Which thats even closed now!! I live in Allentown, Pa by the way. Ok, just had to chime in!!! Pat

Years ago I used the Impulse body sprays: Suddenly Sassy, Instantly Innocent, and Mysterious Musk. I don't remember the other fragrance, but I probably used it too! What ever happened to Impulse and is there any chance of bringing those wonderful frangrances back? I miss them.

Avon had perfume called "Pearls and Lace" Love to have it back!!! Also I loved, and I mean loved VSP Jovan Consentrated Cologne and Gee Your Hair smells terrific.

I remember a perfume my Aunt Fran had in the 70s. It was in a green glass apple and it was called "green Apple". I loved it and always sprayed it on when I visited. I think it was by Avon. How I wish they would bring it back. Id buy it up.

Yes, Parry, and that is free of charge... Until a certain point if after several tries you are still not satisfied, then they charge lab fees. I have worked with three such companies. Both here in So. Cal and back east. One finally got a match to my formula. But god knows how they duplicated it. They didn't use my exact formula. You don't own the formula or see what's in it. That way you have to go to them to have it made. On my second two formulas I said to hell with this and batched them myself and saved a lot of money. But of course they were my original formulas and I didn't have to match something particular. There are about five main houses that sell raw materials and you can order them if they think you are a pro company.

Kate, Who made that fragrance and when? I haven't heard of it. My list (so far) is: "Eau de Love" Original "Ambush" Original "Heaven Sent" "Woodhue" And, as a little kid I wore "Daisies Won't Tell" from Avon - does anyone else remember that? I'd love to see it make a comeback for younger girls who feel the need for fragrance. It was lovely!

It was a "skin incense " from Yardley. I have one bottle left. It occassionally will show up on ebay. I may have some ambush and heavensent in my collection. I will look for you-i have more of everything than I need. I know there are somemore that I miss but I will have to think. Thanks for responding-it's nice to talk to someone with a like obsession! My favorite perfume to this day is "You're the Fire" by Yardley! I've been using it since 1973. Both my daughters love it! I know it's available in South Africa still - there is a factory somewhere around Port Elizabeth, I've been told. One of my friends used to bring back a bottle when he got over there, but he doesn't go anymore. I'd love to see it come back to the U.S.!

I would love to see Dana Perfumes bring back the ORIGINAL Ambush perfume. The stuff on the shelves now is nothing like the scent I used to wear! I have found it at an online supplier, but it was quite expensive. Why do the manufacturers 'relaunch' a perfectly wonderful product?? Don't they remember the 'Coke Classic' fiasco?

Like in so many other areas, federal and state laws have stepped in increasingly and have classified MANY former perfume ingredients as environmentally or personally hazardous. Such is the case with the wonderful and distinctive "nitro musks" which gave so many perfumes a distinctive richness. Manufacturers have had to reformulate probably the majority of scents to comply with such laws, changing the basic character of many fragrances. Many odorants just aren't available to the perfumer anymore.

The start-up costs are outrageous. I'm a beginner at marketing fragrances myself. I found that you have to buy a minimum of ten thousand sprayers and caps, min. Of 5K bottles. Bottle decorators and fillers don't want to deal with orders under 5K, packaging costs are about a dollar a box with liner. Don't forget, your fragrance doesn't only have to smell good, but it must look luxurious, too, so you can't go cheap. I figure my products are costing me about $10 a unit as a small manufacturer. It would be much cheaper if I were Procter and Gamble, etc. Also, if you go to stores to sell, they will prefer to deal with you if you have more than one scent to sell...so... Anyway, it is costing me several hunderd thousand dollars to produce three. Your main expenses are bottles, decorating bottles (silkscreening, etc), a package, filling charges per bottle, your perfume oil at between $55-$130 a pound, and pumps and overcaps. As a beginner in the field, stores can't charge more than about $45 per bottle as you are an unknown. That means you sell for about $17 as there is a high mark up. It's a nightmare, but I love doing it. It has to be a passion. I am still waiting to see profits. I don't mean to discourage you, if you are like me, go for it.

What ingredients have been "banned"? I know there's been a turn toward synthetic ingredients, but didn't know there had actually been a ban on ingredients.

Yes, a lot of formerly used chems and even natural products have had limitations put on them about usage level or use at all. One example I cited are the very nice "nitro" musks such as musk xylene which were WIDELY used because of their particularly nice musk odor. Orris root, and some chems that give a cinnamon smell such as cinnamaldehyde. Some rules are by state and some federal, some international. Any non-adherence to these rules restricts the sales area of a product to China or somewhere like that.

Storer, Thanks for the information. Too much money for my wallet. Are there people who can analize a fragrance and duplicate it the best that they can? I know that each fragrance has it's own formula and it's probably a well kept secret. But, what if someone came to you with a perfume? Could you come close to duplicating it? If not, are there people or companies that can do that? Thanks. Perry

Yes, Perry, there are a number of companies here and abroad that specialize in matching a "target" fragrance, but they do it expecting that you are goinig to buy quite a few pounds of the raw oil from them for manufacture. You can't go in and ask for just one bottle unless you cleverly lie to them about your intentions. (They don't charge to do the duplication itself), so you could fake them out. ;-)

Would love to see Jovan bring back Frankincense and Myrhh. Wore it in the seventies, and always had loads of compliments. Also, one of the first musk oils that came out back then. Small, squarish bottle, black lid, plain black print on the bottle. Also, Alyssa Ashley used to put out a scent called Civet. If I'd have known, I'd have bought it all up back then.............

I know this a longshot....anyone remember "Lights and Shadows" an Avon product from the late 60's? It was actually two different bottles...one was a light fragrance which was in a clear bottle and the other a headier fragrance in a dark bottle which fit together back to back.
Also, while I am on the Avon train...what about "Patterns" which, if I am remembering correctly, was in a black and white paisley patterned spray bottle?
Hmm.....brings back memories.............

Please, Please, Please, bring back "eau de Love" by Menley and James...it was the scent of my youth....It was indeed light, yet lasting, it was my signature scent...Donovans' "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was the theme music for the commercials and Ali McGraw appeared in several of them...Love also had a line of cosmetics including make up and scented washes and other products...

The Oriental Spice Aftershave was by Hai Karate. You can not buy it in stores for a real long time now but, they do have it on eBay, for a price. They have it in Regular or Lime, REGULAR BEING BEST. It is from the 70's because when I was a kid my boyfriend wore it. Oh my gosh please bring back this Hai Karate scent and maybe I will look for a new boyfriend :-)

I am desperately looking to find the Tinkerbell perfume (and the pink lotion and the powder compact) that I had as a kid around 1980. The Tinkerbell perfume was yellow-ish in color, it was kids' makeup - but it was so special and smelled so good to me as a kid. I cannot even find any on EBay in the vintage section. I'm sure there are women in their 30s who remember the Tinkerbell makeup...even the bottles were made out of glass and so pretty! It was a neat toy that I will always remember. If they would only make that perfume again for MY little girl...

I was amazed to see After Five on the list. I loved that! I used to buy it at a small card shop near my home in Ohio years, and years and years ago! My mother used Woodhue and she died when I was six, so that was a long-time favorite. I started using Galore by Scandia ($7 a bottle) in 1973. Germaine Montail then began Galore distribution and cost went up, but at least it was everywhere. Now, I can only find the cologne. No powder, lotion, gift sets or extra goodies are anywhere to be found.
My husband wore Grass Oil in the early 80's. I loved it. The expensive stuff he now wears is just not the same!

So nice to see all these wonderful old scents listed...how about Aphrodesia, Lactopine bath oil, Galore of course and that rare Golden Autumn by Prince Machibelli? Coty also once made a jasmine fragrance which was quite tea-like! It's interesting, too, to scan old (1930s-50s) magazines for the perfumes of yore, particularly the war years. Thanks for a nice site!

Fragrance X has many discontinued fragrances at reasonable prices. The Vermont Country catalog features "practical and hard to find" items. It's like a walk down memory lane! I tried to copy as many fragrances as possible.
Yardley English Lavender, Lily of the Valley, English Rose and April Violets, Tigress, Joy, White Shoulders cologne and powder, Fenjal, White Jasmine, Raffine, Charlie, Apple Blossom, Shalimar, Oh! De London, Woodhue, Lalique, Tweed, Nuit de Noel, Intoxication, Tosca, Arpege, Sirocco, Maja and powder , L’Aimant, Je Reviens, Fleurs de Rocallie, Coty Muguet des Bois, Bellodgia, Most Precious, Wind Song, Forget Me Not, Tailspin, Heaven Sent and Chantilly solid fragrance sticks, Blue Waltz perfume, Orange Blossom, Blue Grass powder, Royal Secret, Bal a Versailles, Narcisse Noir, Florida Water and Vermont Powder. This is a small start on a list!
Fragrance X has my Galore cologne, but no lotion or powder. No one seems to have After Five anymore!
Sandy, thank you for your help on the Galore extras. Amazing how steep the price gets when fragrances are discontinued. I didn't pay that much in the department stores!

The "Woodhue" at the Vermont Country Store is not the original, it's a dupe, in case anyone is interested. The bottle is different, so I asked their "live help" rep, and they told me it is a dupe.

Thanks for posting the Vermont Country Store fragrance list. Has anyone tried the Heaven Scent stick? I'm tired of spending money on stuff that smells not even vaguely like the original . I just got two bottles of Heaven Scent at a Walgreens for 50% off- one smells just like the old stuff, and one smells completely different. It's almost like a different fragrance.

Hi Claudia,

Don't feel bad, as you were trying to help people find perfumes they may be looking for, at a fair price. There are many posts on this site that are pro & con on the Vermont Country Store. My opinion happens to be they con people with the nostalgic come on, & hit ya in the wallet once your hooked by their "yesteryear" appeal. The perfumes "just as you remember them," that they sell are not Originals from long ago. They are remakes, packaged to look pretty much like the "Real Deal," only they aren't. They smell totally different, for the same reason, they aren't the Originals. The legitamite perfumes that you can get there, are way, way, cheaper on other perfume sites. They pull this with other items as well. A this or that is back just as you remember it, & it's priced through the roof. Then you walk into Wal- Mart, or some other store & find the same thing dirt cheap compared to their prices. This just happens to be my opinion. But Claudia, you should never feel bad about trying to help someone, & that's what you were doing when you posted here.

Unfortunately, NONE of the old fragrances are going to smell the "same as you remember it", simply because of the quality of ingredients has drastically changed. Everything is synthetic now; the actual scent oils are manufactured in a laboratory. Back in the day, perfumers used real animal and plant products in their fragrances. So no matter how they try, nothing will ever smell like the real thing "as you remember it" again.

You got that right !! Animal cruelty laws prevent certain oils, & ingredients from being used now in perfumes. Those were the very thing that gave Original perfumes their wonderful lasting power, & held the auroma that we all remember & loved so much, no matter what our favorite scent was back then.
I see Heaven Sent a lot on this message board. If it isn't by Helena Rubenstein, then it isn't Heaven Sent, period. And other than ebay, collector sites are the place to look under discontinued perfumes, or vanity items.

I've been fortunate with the quality of Galore that I have purchased from various perfume sites. While I'm not ecstatic about buying my cologne from Five Star, it smells the same as it did when it had fancier names like Germaine Monteil or Scandia. :) I must say, I like finding it at reasonable prices. Now, if I could extend that pricing and availability to the lotion and powder! Greedy aren't I? I doubt there are many lesser known fragrances that have been available for so long. It was introduced in 1964 and I discovered it in 1973. I always resented being ambushed passing through the cosmetics area of department stores, but the day I was "spritzed" with Galore changed my fragrance life. I know we are "supposed" to change fragrances frequently, but I love having strangers stop me to compliment the same fragrance my friends' grown children call "Claudia's Galore"!

Www.perfumebay.com usually sells several items of Galore, by Germaine Monteil, including the Perfumed Lotion. With Monteil being the Original maker of Galore, product sells fast. They are temp. Out of all items now, but check back w/them from time to time to see if they are restocked. I used to love the Royal Secret Dusting Powder, made by Monteil, & the body cream to go w/it, esp. On a cool fall or winter day.

I have been searching for Golden Autumn for ever. I am so disappointed to hear that if I ever do find it , it may not smell the same. I also loved something that no one ever mentions..Glorious by Vanderbilt. Very light, almost sweet but so feminine and pretty. I got it as a gift from my daughter about 15 years ago. I saved a tiny bit for each of my kids' weddings, that's how much I loved it. Ad also something called "Bond Street" I think, from my high school, early college days, and finally Blue Grass, one of my first loves favorites. I find it once in awhile at discount outlets and boy does that bring back memories!!

Both Bond Street (by Yardley,) & Golden Autumn, (by Prince Matchabellii,) are very hard to come by. Ebay, & collector sites are a good source to look for them. I just checked, & there is quite a bit of Golden Autumn listed on Ebay now. Look for it in Health and Beauty.

As far as Blue Grass, (I love it ) you can get it everywhere, & quite reasonable too. Glorious is harder to find now, but here's a site where you can get them both.

...and lots, LOTS more! It's just too depressing writing them down ... Not trying to rain on anyones parade, but in reality, more than likely, they're not coming back. The few that have made the attempt (for example Heaven Scent!) is a far cry from the original since they change the formula in the process. It's truly sad.

I'm aware you can get some of the old originals on Ebay or other sites, but the cost is astronomical! And they are so old, that the scent has obviously been affected. Not worth the asking price for an ancient bottle of weak perfume.

The original GUESS perfume that came in the twisted bottle, made by GEORGES MARCIANO. I haven't been able to find a perfume that smells even remotely close to this, and their new formulas aren't even in the same league!

Vermont Country Store now offers the Sweet Earth solid compacts! These are made exclusively for them, so I don't believe they are the exact same thing Coty put out. You can always try Vermont Country Store for some disc. Fragrances.
NOTE: times have changed, and many American fragrances are chemically synthesized from petroleum byproducts; everything but the most expensive and exclusive scents no longer use animal products or endangered plant species, so they may not smell like we remember them ( especially anything with musk, civet, some kinds of flowers, or ambergris in it).

Tuxedo by Ralph Lauren, Ambergris by unknown, and a 1980s Ted Lapidus dream scent whose name I cannot recall. Gorgeous musky floral exotic. No doubt the ingredient restrictions have rendered these olfactory delights as extinct.I'm wary of purchasing old stock, scents do have a shelf life just like edibles.Fun site here.

As I've told people before, on other threads for discontinued perfumes, etc. The Vermont Country Store DOES NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL ITEMS. THEY ARE CHEAP-SMELLING FAKES, not to mention, they're expensive for horrible way they smell.

If ANY OF YOU, are interested in the TRUE ORIGINALS, the best source of finding them and paying a 'reasonable' price, is on eBay. Just do a 'World-Wide' search. There are other sites, of course, that you'll be able to find these perfumes/fragrances of days gone by, but you can be sure that you will PAY for them DEARLY...and I do mean DEARLY.

So, stick to eBay. Forget The Vermont Country Store, they will flim-flam you with AWFUL fakes.

Even Irma Shorell, does not sell the originals; they have re-formulated some Perfumes like "My Sin", and although it smells nice, it's NOTHING like the original.

Well, now for my list: I would love to have Tigress, Chanel No 22 (original), Arpege (original), My Sin (Lanvin), Crescendo (Lanvin), Rumeur (Lanvin), Scandal (Lanvin), Danger (Ciro), Eau de Love, Heaven Sent by Helena Rubenstein, Brocade (Avon), Ecusson (original), Farouche by Nina Ricci, Ambush, Tabu, Cachet (original), and of course, THE MUSKS - such as:
RH Macy Musk Oil, West-Cabot (NOT Cabot) Original Natural Musk Oil, Satana Oil of Musk, Jovan (original), Houbigant Musk, and ANY Natural Musks of the 1970s. These, of course, EXCLUDE ALL the Musks today that are manufactured in the United States.

The ONLY way, you can get 'Natural' Musk oils, as far as I know, you have to inquire overseas, or go to some foreign website. Nowadays, here in the USA, they use artificial or flower 'White Musks' which smell Nothing like the originals, which when dabbed and rubbed onto your skin, lasted for days on end, and drove anyone in your vecinity MAD with pleasure. They would follow your scent trail. Trust me on this.

Ah, to have those golden days of yore....when Magical Fragrances reigned supreme!!!

I also miss the Guess perfume in the twisty bottle, but most of all I miss the perfume "Tribe". It was sold at Wal-Mart in the early 90's, and cost about $14 a bottle. I thought it might have been renamed, but I can't find it if so.

During the late 1976/77 I found a perfume at a local drug store called PSYCHE. I have yet to find anything that smells as good as this perfume (and I always was asked what I was wearing). It was not very expensive. I would like to know if anyone knows who made this perfume.

Gingham - think someone else has mentioned that - amazing stuff - a sort of girly Brut but much lighter and sexier.

Ritz by Charles of the Ritz - does anyone know if you can still get that?

Stevie B by Max Factor - real teenage scent for me but it was amazing!

Venezia was amazing - why on earth was it discontinued, Laura Biagotti?? I found some in the Middle East and bought it up - have only got a little left which is guarded fiercely for special occasions.

And the ultimate for me was VU by Ted Lapidus - really wonderful - still hunting that one down. I did find it on e-bay but someone bid against me ruthlessly until I had to stop! They were obviously a fan too.
Please get in touch if you know of the whereabouts of any of these scents.

Go to www.marteccis.com if you want the Venezia scent made up for you by the perfumer. Just email them. All their scents are made to order so they're the best you can get......................................................................... If you're really "selective" or picky of what scents you wear, you may want to ask them about their custom designed fragrance services or ask for recommendations. Just basically tell them as thororughly as possible what you like and don't like when you contact them.

I miss the original vintage formula of L'Origan and also Masumi - both by Coty. I can't understand why this company pioneers such great scents loved by so many and then pulls it.

I wore a really great scent back in the early 70's, it was called Straw Hat, I dont recall who it was made by but it was a really great and fresh scent. Does anyone recal hearing of it? Thanks, Heather B.

I've e-mailed Mr. Snider, the perfumer, per his offer in this forum at martecci@cox.net (see website http://www.members.cox.net/heartlandmerch/index.htm for more info). I suggested he start a "perfume club" and offer recreated perfumes for his subscribers. Please let him know if you would be interested in this idea. Wouldn't it be great to have samples of all of our old favorites, with a "perfume of the month" offered from his re-creations? Keeping fingers crossed.

Just bought the pricey www.thefragrancefactory.com Woodhue. It really is the 'real deal' and the bottle was tightly sealed and carton perfect shape. With age, the cork liner in the bottle cap had literally 'welded' itself to the mouth of the bottle - probably a good thing as the cologne was in perfect shape after 40 or so years. Just as I remembered from those halcyon days of my youth.

I am glad though that I purchased and it is what it is supposed to be! Brings back memories for sure. If your looking for the REAL DEAL In Faberge Fragrance www.thefragrancefactory.com is the place to go they also sell the real "Tigress,Straw Hat,Babe, Kiku, and all the other rare ones.

There is some Impulse body spray on ebay right now for around $10 a can. I think they have the Innocent one. That had the pink butterfly? I bought some of the Suddenly Sassy and it smelled great, so you dont have to worry about it being old and stinky.

I can't stand companies who discontinue scents (or indeed anything - ie., lipstick shades) without consulting their customers. It is the height of arrogance! After all, who put them where they are in the first place. These days there seems to be a mania for 'celebrity' perfumes. Most of them are, quite frankly, awful. Indeed there is a sameness - all nauseating and heavy. My personal favourite is Masumi - what on earth provoked Coty to get rid of it and keep L'Aimant (not half as nice and yet still going after 80 years!) ANother one I like it Lichfield - it was brought out by Woods of Windsor in the 90's in conjunction with the late Lord Lichfield. Again - gone - and yet it knocks spots off the overpriced pungent dross we see in the shops today! That's enough ranting for tonight - thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Incidentally I emailed Coty re the Masumi - they didn't reply (no surprises there...)

Anyone looking for Love's Musky Jasmin - forget it. If you do find it it'll probably ridiculously expensive. But I did find a wonderful fragrance from Avon called "Flower" by Cynthia Rowley that is the closest thing to Musky Jasmin that I've ever smelled. Not an exact match but close enough it brought back memories when I first smelled it. It's really a beautiful scent. Around 30 dollars for a 1.7 oz bottle so it's not too expensive that you don't want to try it. You may even be able to get a sample vial first. That's what I did. Good luck ladies in all your perfume searches. And what about Babe? I'd love to see that one too......

I would LOVE to have EMMA back. Got something that smelled similar as a sample, and it made me so nostalgic! Another great one was FLORA DANICA--so elegant and long lasting. I tried one of the copy-cat versions, and it didn't smell anything like it.

*A BUYER BEWARE/Caveat Emptor Warning to ALL those who are told to find their Favourite Fragrances at
VERMONT COUNTRY STORE!!!!

You will be wasting your money - these Fragrances are AWFUL, and they're expensive for the VERY Poor quality Vermont Country Store offers. The reason I know this is that I have bought quite a few of these products at the Vermont Country Store such as:
Their version of FABERGE TIGRESS, STRAW HAT, and others.
Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed that I had spent my money on such garbage.

To those of you who have used the orginals and you've got the 'Nose' as they say in the Fragrance Industry, you will NOT be satisfied with what The Vermont Country Store is offering for sale.

Do yourselves a favour and stick with the ORIGINALS - you can't go wrong with them.

But if you want to find out the hard way - go right ahead, just take note that you've been forewarned.

I would love to see Max Factor bring back the Strawberry Musk that came out mid 70's. It was the best scented strawberry cologne! One that still lingers with the distinct smell that surrounded the 70's. Still after 30 years the rememberance of this cologne is remarkable & I truly believe it would be a hit again not only with the tweens but with us - the boomers. I would love to share with my teenage daughters!

Victoria's Secret used to have a fragrance called "Meadow Fair" back in the 80's. I still have a bottle of the talcum powder and it smells as good today as it did back then. I would love to see that fragrance make a comeback.

In 1964/65 I used a fabulous bath (bar) soap by (and named as I recall) "Mary Sherman". The bars were huge, soft pink pillows, extremely creamy and left a long-lasting & delicate fragrance. I would give anything to find it again...or for that matter, hear from anyone else who used/remembers it.

I've seen reference to "Mary Sherman" fragrance, which is unfamiliar to me, but maybe it's from the same company?

I purchased it while a university student in Lafayette, IN and have never forgotten it.

I absolutely love the mens cologne "Trouble". Nothing has ever quite measured up to it. I know it was manufactured by Mennen. Even in the 70's you couldn't keep it on the shelf due to it's popularity. If someone could clone this exact smell, you'd have a goldmine.

Lou Lou by Cacharel (Several years ago I heard it was discontinued in the USA and was only being released in Paris.) I have one tiny little bit left and it still smells the same.

For those of you looking for any Avon things, have you contacted anyone associated with Avon? From time to time they have little specials with "old" items available but I don't know how far back they go.

To the one looking for Murasaki by Shiseido - I like that too and I have about 1/3 a bottle of it that I still wear occasionally.

There used to be a fragrance when I was a kid and I think it was by Revlon but I'm not sure. It was Hypnotique or Hypnotic (not sure how it's spelled.)

I would give anything if Jovan would bring back Andron for Women(there was a Andron for Men also). I wore Andron for Women exclusively. They discontinued it years ago,don't know why. It was a pheromone based perfume. I don't know if the pheromones really did anything or not, but I loved the scent and always felt special when I wore it. It was my signature scent. Got tons of compliments on it, from men and women. I have never found a perfume since that smells as wonderful as Andron! Jovan would make a KILLING if they would bring back the original Andron scents.I want my ANDRON BACK!

I would like to see Windjammer come back. I like to see any colonge that has a similar scent to Surf Aqua Velva. I heard Windjammer has a similar scent but Windjammer too is no longer around. I recently asked somebody on another website if he can find any aftershave in the world that has a similar scent to Surf Aqua Velva and he said he couldn't find any. I know for a fact that Avon made it a long time ago and I believe a couple of other companies made it too. I would love to see Windjammer come back. All I got is a empty bottle of it that I won on Ebay that's from 1969. The only reason why I wanted it is because 1969 was the year I was born.

My #1 wish: "Shari" by Rexall - was in their drug stores, would spray it in my hair, the scent was hypnotic
#2: original Ambush - recent versions are nothing the same
#3: "Eau de London" by Yardley
#4: "Lemon Velvet" by Avon
Someone needs to wake up to the fact that we baby-boomers now have $$ to spend, and are at a point in life where we're attending reunions, reconnecting with our pasts, and would love to connect with old memories. I think it could be very profitable for someone to tackle our lists - especially since several of the same fragrances keep showing up on these lists and all over the web

Golden Autumn!! There is a perfume sold now that smells quite a bit like Golden Autumn, only a little softer. It is called Calfornia (it used to be by Jaclyn Smith--now it's by Dana) and it is sold now at the 99 cent only store. I got some today!

Sure you can find some fragrances there, but WHOA, what a price tag!

Many of the fragrances you find there can be found at many other online sites for MUCH less $$.

But don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself! Do google searches for whatever you are searching for.

Was in Skegness last week and there is a shop that sells a lot of the perfumes people are after. Can't remember the name of the shop (in the main high street) but it could be in telephone book. I will ask my sister to find out the name. Couldn't find the one I was after tho!!

Skinny Dip by Coty--a wonderful scent that smelled differently on each of us--anyone remember the commercial with Season Hubley? The closest to come to this is Cachet by Prince Machiabelli which came out about the time Skinny Dip disappeared so I wonder if that formula became Cachet (which is now difficult to find). ? One more thing, if you are interested in having Martecci's recreate MY SIN BY LAVIN, TIGRESS BY FABERGE, SCANDAL BY LAVIN, MADAME BY ROCHAS, NORELL, NORELL 2, OR EMMA BY LAURA ASHLEY, them contact them via email which is martecci@cox.net.

ANYHOW just check out Martecci's site, and if you want, email them for some really good recommendations...

If I were to suggest something for floral lovers, I wold say to try LACORDAIRE by Martecci, and for citrus lovers, or people who like perfumes like Andiamo, you should try Richelieu by Martecci...and also particpate int he Andiamo pre-pay they have going...

I can't forget the fragrance called "Elan" by Coty, popular in the late 60's. I wish I bought a case of it back then, before I knew it was discontinued. Why do they stop making such marvelous smells, and keep the so-so ones. Does anyone know of a fragrance that smells like Elan? Base: Amber, Tobacco, Woody, Middle: Jasmine & Citrus? I want it back.

I am looking for a perfume and I think it might be called Rochelle or La Rochelle. It was a cheapo back in 70's. What reminded me of it was Clarins Night Cream - the smell took me right back!! I remember putting it on one night & my husband commented on it, which was unusal, so if anyone can remember it....

So many of the perfumes today have a sweet sickly smell. I was told to extend the actual perfume, they put formeldyhyde in it. Well I would love to see Cinnabar Lotion to come back, by Estee Lauder. I also liked a few of Avons perfumes named Bird of Paradise, Topaz, Candid, Sweet Honesty, and a few others. They either have been discontinued or don't smell like the original perfume I use to buy. The younger generations taste for perfume is not to my liking. I can't stand the perfume called POISON, smells too much like RAID. It just seems alot of the scents today, all are smelling similiar to one another.

Windjammer! I think it was around back when I was a kid. I got a vintage bottle of it (empty) from the year I was born, from 1969. I heard that Aqua Velva Surf had a similar scent to Windjammer. It will be great if that came back too! I guess untill they come back, if they do, I will make do with Gillette Cool Wave.

Eve - Congrats on your success. The unopened" part of the equation is probably the key part. Lack of exposure to air, and probably optimum storage conditions are probably the reason for your wonderful experience. I wish we could all be so lucky. Ingulge yourself - and don't be too stingy as I don't think the shelf life will be all that it used to be.

I am having awful trouble my favourite ever perfume i cant remember the name of or who made it only that the bottle was raised glass pattern (like whitefriars glass)kind of square the lid was the same and the liquid was green like muguet by coty, bottle about 11/2 inches high it was around in the early eighties. Gap clothing stores sold a fragrance called "Earth" about 10 years ago. They discontinued it and every now and again a bottle will show up on e-bay for $100+. I have seen different posts on the internet of people looking for it, but no one seems to have any luck. I'd be willing to buy a bottle from someone if they have one they aren't using! Just came on this thread, to inform lovers of You're The Fire, Skinny Dip, and Yardley's Bond Street, that there are sealed originals on Ebay *right now* of these items (the Bond Street is available in a tiny cologne and a box of bath powder!) Frankly, the powder is the thing you'll find that keeps its original scent FOREVER, with a bath oil second to that; unfortunately, the colognes and perfumes will most likely be long-turned, even if they've been kept well.

Tigress by Faberge
Anne Klein II : I wore this in the mid-90's just before it was discontinued, and there was something about it that hinted at Tigress. So, of course, they discontinued it, just like Cher's Uninhibited, which had a similar scent.
Recently, I bought a box of miniature Avon scents from the late 90's, and one in particular, Millenium, had that Tigress-like smell. Researched it, and found it, too, is already gone. What's the deal?
In my mid-teens, I had a bottle of Evening Star by Blanchard. Loved it. Never found it again.
Wore Chantilly, which I could afford, but Loved Shalimar and L'Heure Blue. Even then, I had "champagne taste and beer budget". I still remember standing at the perfume counter in Remick's of Quincy, falling instantly in love with those two remarkable fragrances. The first time I smelled L'Heure Bleue, at 16, it was as if I was instantly transported to another world, with crystal chandeliers, extravagant gowns with long white gloves, high-piled, tiara'd hairdos, and handsome dance partners in tuxedos , filling a beautiful ballroom. I decided right then that if I ever had to choose between an expensive outfit and a heavenly perfume, the perfume would win, hands down! You can feel elegant in anything, as long as you have the right perfume on!

In 1956 my Brother, who was in apprentice school and very lowly paid at the time, gave to me and my sister a Max Factor cologne and dusting powder set, "Primitif," to share for Christmas. My heart has longed for another "Primitif" for years now. Do any of you folks know where I might get another??? Do any of you have one of these sets hanging around?? To "di" on 10/18/09: YES, someone (me!) actually remembers quite well, Wicker fragrance by Prince Matchabelli. Even googled for it like crazy awhile back, to no avail. Bought around '71 or '72, and the memory of it, even wearing while swimming in summer, sweetly remains. The bottle (green I believe) had a white wicker pattern on it. Came and went very quickly :(. Other finely recalled fragrances I loved using, mostly teens and twenties in '70's: Chantilly (but this one was a creamy sachet w/ applicator wand, pink bottle--absolutely yummy), Woodhue as so many have mentioned (college frat "boy" bought for my high school self; I loved it, but too hard to find afterwards), Hypnotique (amazingly clean and refreshing smell!), and really loved Cachet for awhile. Just adored Lanvin's "A Veil of Arpege"--another WONDERFUL creamy sachet fragrance (golden-hued in clear bottle) w/ applicator wand;so lovely--ya just don't find that type anymore! Intimate and Ultima, both by Revlon; felt so rich in those glorious fragrances. Nice to see a few mentions of Moonwind by Avon; I've really missed that one also. Liked Emeraude back in the day, too, but when i bought again (fresh, new bottle) a few years ago, it had become a little cheap and sickening to me. Also loved wearing, going back to junior high years (late 60's), Cotillion by Avon and Chanel No. 5--each "borrowed" from Mom's dressing table! :)

What a terrific idea this site is!!! There are a couple of fragrances that I have been trying to get. One was brought out in 1972 by Helena Rubinstein called Courant (one of my all time favorites!) and the other two were taken off the market here in the US but I can't find them overseas either. Jovan Grass Oil- is the scent that I would like to see brought back. I used to wear this scent religiously throughout the 70s; however, it has been discontinued. I recently bought a large bottle on ebay; what used to be about 8-10 dollars, is now, only if you can find it, worth $ 125.00. If I knew then what I know now, I would be rich because I would have bought up Jovan's whole supply of this scent.
How do we bring a scent back?
Any ideas?
Do any of you know a good chemist so that I could have this scent reproduced?

To Karen who posted Nov. 2009. I think the green perfume you are referring to is Emeraud. My mother wore during that time period and I remembered by your discription.

Aside from that, I have read every post on this website and cannot believe than Lily of the Valley by Jovan hasn't been mentioned once. I don't know when it was discontinued, but my sister found a bottle at a flea market when we were teens--in the mid 90s and we fell in love with it. It was part of a floral collection by Jovan that included Night Jasmine and Honeysuckle and some others, but Lily of the Valley by Jovan would be the one for me.

If anyone could shed light on where I could find this or has any that they would be willing to part with, please post!

Tremendous news, you-all! And no one is more surprised than I am! After having had a *costly* experience (another one!) to convince me, finally, after many like it, that one can NEVER "go home", and never, NEVER find a scent that, over decades, has not turned into something horrible and noxious, in no way resembling anything it was - - - I have just received an unopened bottle of Max Factor's 'HYPNOTIQUE', in the pussycat display container - - AND IT IS INTACT!!!! I don't think it has suffered any damage with time, at all!!!

Is it because of what it was made of (pure aldehyde, perhaps?) that it has retained its character over time? Is it some fantastic anomaly? I don't know! All I can tell you is that I am being transported in time, by the fragrance of this fantastically *fresh* cologne, that has traversed the decades, since its last presence, at least thirty years ago(!!!!!!); it is bringing back an entire part of my history in a single whiff!

Oh, Max, Max; you didn't lie to us when you said that your fragrances were "eternal"!

CORRECTION: I referred to this bottle of 'Hypnotique' as "cologne", and I see that it is marked as a "perfume"! I wouldn't have guessed that this was a perfume - - guess there was a range of drug-store perfumes that was sub-par to my more elevated adult expectation of a perfume - - but maybe that is an issue in finding something intact; maybe the amount of oil in perfume preserves it better than cologne, eau de toilette, or even eau de parfum (I know that my original bottle of Yves St Laurent's 'Paris', kept in the dark, in a drawer, did not do at all well, over time - - and it was 80%) - - so I feel it essential to correct and specify this detail.

I sit here, hours after this treasure has arrived, wafting in the aroma of a particularly evocative aspect of my childhood memories, still expecting it to turn on me like a bad date - - but no! Fresh as a frigging daisy!

Around the year 2000, Calgon had a body spray called "Fall Mist", I don't believe they make it anymore this is my favorite fragrance of all time it reminds me of someone in that time period just the same way a song puts you in a different setting, if anybody knows where I can get this fragrance, I would be deeply obliged. Ladies who are mad for Faberge's *BABE*, there are not only lots of it for sale on Ebay, right now, but there is a 4 ounce bottle at a 'buy it now' price that is really good, considering the usual prices you wind up paying in auctions for popular scents.

Lots of Max Factor *PRIMATIF* - - including bath sets with cologne and dusting powder, that someone was wanting, also on Ebay!

There is a singe *TINKERBELL* bath set.

Lots and lots of Avon *MOONWIND* (I believe someone was searching for that).

Just about anything you want on Ebay, if you look persistantly for it. If it's not there - - just keep looking for it; you'll find it.

But pay close attention to the photos; if you can see the contents of the bottle, and it's a different, *darker* color than you remember, that means that it has turned into a noxious mess you won't be happy with.

And, here's news: bought a box of vintage bath powder, thinking that surely powder would hold its scent, without turning - - and I was *wrong*! It was an expensive lesson, that I share with you all. Powder can turn, too!

So beware, and proceed with caution - - ask questions about the condition of the scent, if the seller can give you this information (and sometimes they can't, if the bottle is sealed) and try to deal with sellers who will give you a refund if the scent is bad. But do know that Ebay is the place to go to find what you're looking for. I have successfully scored three extremely vintage perfumes/colognes that were in amazingly perfect condition, and smell just wonderful!!!

*REGARDING LOVE'S EAU DE LOVE*

After imagining this scent for so long, and trying, in my mind, to pin down the component scents, I realized, very recently, that the scent that set this one apart was *juniper berries*! The same thing that gives gin it's distinctive scent!! I think it was a variation on their lemon scent, with the "dry" scent of juniper berries infusing it. I'd LOVE to have my "Tribe" by Coty back! Tribe by Coty is a oriental floral fragrance for women. Tribe was launched in 1991. Top notes are green notes, mandarin orange, raspberry, peach, apple, bergamot and lemon; middle notes are cyclamen, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and rose; base notes are sandalwood, amber, musk, oakmoss and cedar.

I got lucky with the Wild Musk Patchouli Blend and found it in a fragrance catalog more than a decade ago. The price was good on some very small bottles of the perfume oil and I bought as many as I could possibly afford to buy. I still have about 3 or 4 bottles left and I am jealously guarding them! lol :o)

This is from Avon, It is a boy wearing a bonnet and a scarf and his red bonnet was the cap(top) of the bottle. He was holding a song book, as if he was singing a Christmas Carol. This was an opaque glass. This perfume was a gift for my Mom by her bestfriend from the US. I was very young then, but it was a gorgeous smell. I think it was "Song of Paradise". Please, if anyone out there, who still has this perfume or know where to get/find it, please let me know, thank you.

I would so much like to have some Hypnotique; also Straw Hat, and all of the Fabrge' line. I have tried some of the ones from Vermont Store, and they are weak imitations. Most of the current scents just smell like chemicals to me. Oh for the good old days!

I am racking my brain trying to figure out this particular teen scent: It was out in the 90's, sold in drug stores, and it was a small, slim cloudy white glass bottle, and had a green plastic top with a curvy blue piece, almost like on a pen cap to hook on to a pocket. It also came with a small plastic stand to stand the bottle in. It was very trendy and teen oriented, but I saw it in a background shot in a favorite 90's show the other day, and I can't quite place it. It almost seems like something bonne bell would have made. Any ideas???

On the note of Bonne Bell: Nicole, i believe the "flirty" "sassy" "playful" scents you are referring to are a line from Bonne Bell in the 90's called "Bottled Emotions". Just google and you'll know those little spritzer bottles right away if they're the ones you're thinking of.

Another discontinued fragrance, "Nature" by Avon, released in Canada. I don't even know the era, but my mother wore it when i was young and I can still remember the scent.

To AM who posted 3/11/09: It is Hypnotique, and was made by Max Factor. Some one gave me some from the Vermont store, and it was a weak imitation. I have a very small amount left from years ago and smell it fondly now and then. How I wish they would bring the real thing back. Lue

A lot of the Victorias Secret Garden was back for this past semi annual sale (Midnight Mimosa, Passionate Kisses, Secret Crush). Also Dream Angels Halo, Breathless, Bare Instinct, and So In Love were brought back! And I would expect them all to be back in June for the next one!

To Therese posting on 1/16-That fragrance would be Bird of Paradise by Avon, not Song of Paradise. It's discontinued, but the replacement and very similar fragrance is Far Away; you may like it just as well or better (but caution: Avon is very, very liberal w/ these "replacement" items!). If you care about the design of the bottle, that is the figurine of the boy Christmas caroler, or as you described, Amazon and Ebay constantly have numerous Avon "vintage" "collectibles" like that. Keep googling and you may eventually find that one.

Tell Ralph Lauren to bring back Tuxedo perfume. What a beautiful fragrance! It was such a great scent to wear for a nite out on the town. It smelled sophisticated, mysterious and sexy! So much better than so many perfumes on the market today. So many the last 15 years, either smell flowery or fruity and very common. Bring back Tuxedo, a more "grown up" scent.

Scents/fragrances I would love back : Moondrops cologne by Revlon /Touch of moondrops.. Windrift cologne for men., I think by the makers of Old Spice.It used to be out at Christmas time and Father's day. I would like to see Toujours moi in more stores, and magie noire is hard to find as well, and if you do find it it is always in huge bottles.

I strongly agree with ali.b.reed - were are classical old fashioned amazing perfumes? Perfume stores are full up with cheap scents without any spark and spirit. Quantity instead of quality and originality. A lot of scents should get the adjective "noscents". The prevalence of fruit and food notes in perfumes annoys me. Coco Chanel said woman shouldn't smell like flower bed. I dare to add: woman shouldn't smell like fruit basket!

My favourite all-time perfume was "Hypnotique" by Max Factor - I used Hypnotique in the 60s and 70s, then all of a sudden it was taken out of circulation. It was the most awesome gentle scent and didn't annoy my allergies. I also received tons of compliments everytime I was among our youth clubs, and was always asked what perfume I was wearing. Really wish Hypnotique would come back!!!

A oily perfume, don't know name by Mary Quant, very florally in tiny yellow bottle with black Mary Quant logo on it. I received compliments everytime I wore it. Only perfume I can honestly say I ABSOLUTELY LOVED

Mary Quant Havoc

A wonderful lemon geranium scent, slightly spicy but light and summery. Why cant I get this type of purfume any more?
Why are we stuck with a cross between fly spray and pole cat ferret essence these days. I also remember Sea Jade talc by Yardley which was always my favorite at Christmas.
Oh dear, showing my age again, but I hate nasty, cheap smelling chemical concoctions which are guaranteed to curl the most robust sinus. Heres hoping for old fashioned and real perfumes again.

I especially liked California perfume. Every time I wore it I got so many compliments from strangers. In fact, it's the only fragrance I've ever worn that strangers would comment on. It just had such a smooth, soft scent. It was the only fragrance I wanted to buy and wear. I'm so disappointed that it's been discontinued.

Thank you for starting this thread. I have just gotten into perfumes again after a long hiatus. The lesson I'm learning here is... If I find something I like... BUY IT while it's still here to buy! Buy a lot of it!! :)

I would love to see some company remake Love's Soft Lemon scent and of course, Heaven Sent. And I'd really love to see someone remake Yardley of London's Pot O'Glosses, using the same glorious scent they had in the seventies! Good luck everyone!

I am going through HELL trying to figure out the name of a perfume that I LOOOOOVED, but was discontinued. It was sold at Wal-Mart in the late 90's. It had an orange zig zag shaped bottle. I want to say the name of it started with a "Z", but with my memory, I could be totally wrong.

Seventeen magazine used to have scent strips of it in EVERY magazine when I was in high school (late 90's).

I would love to have the jovan's fresh patouli perfume back. I found it 2 years ago at a cvs and bought all they had left. Now I cannot find it anywhere. Please bring it back. When I googles it there were several post from others also wanting it back. It was the perfume I wore on my wedding day and up until I used my last bottle. I love it because it is not too heavy like straight patouli oil and has almost a citrus undertone to it that makes it so "fresh".

I was attending a Photography school in Manhatten in 1958 when I was introduced to Lactopine. I fell in love with that fragrance. I used their bath oil, after shave, cologne for men, and for several years purchased their products for all family members at Christmas. I bought some in Manhatten in an old building up on I believe the 6th or 8th floor. When you stepped off the elevator thats all you could smell-Lactopine. I still have 1 bottle of the bath oil to remember it by. The label says Swiss Pine Importing Co., INC. Bronx, New York 10467
