| Yes, I remember this lovely fragrance; my mother wore it. She bought it at Macy's in downtown San Francisco. It was as spicy and sensual as its dark amber color in the round, swirly glass bottle with the silver cap... Every now and then I see some on ebay for ridiculous prices. I used to work for Borghese, back in the 90's, and my account executive and I mourned the disappearance of this smoldering elixir. When I asked her to see if she could get any inside information on either its discontinuation reasons, or the possibility of a re-launch, I heard: nothing. Even she couldn't get any answers from corporate. Borghese was, at the time, experiencing a major management change, the details of which I was not made privy to. The company's fragrance was going through its 'Gai Mattiolo' phase. As far as we could recall, DiBorghese vanished in the 80's. I wish I could help more. |

I also have searched for this perfume since I used to wear it daily. Now, I could kick myself for even spraying it in my car to make the car smell good.
I was told by one perfume site that the flower used in the ingredient died out, and as a result, they quit making the perfume. The site was legitimate; yet, I couldn't help but think if the main ingredient in a sucessful product was dying, wouldn't you imagine the corporation would do whatever possible to save it?
I also would love to see the company bring it back. |

I was told by one of the perfume companies quite a while ago that our perfume (Princess Marcella Di Borghese) no longer exists due to the fact that the flower supply died out. You'd think they'd pamper and cultivate the "flower" .... :( The source was reputable though. |

The egg is in a lovely black satin box. The perfum inside has dried up but the smell is still there. There is a little glass bottle inside the silver egg. I am going to sell it on Ebay and was trying to find out how much i might expect for it. The smell is truly gorgeous. It's a shame the perfume isnt around anymore, it is very rich and decadent. |

| Borgese cosmetics was not made bankrupt by Revlon. Borgese had THE MOST EXPENSIVE cosmetic line in American department stores. This line of cosmetics was just for prestige and to maintain the displays. At some point become unsustainable. Then OPEC oil minister Sh. Yamani bought the hotel and spa at Monticatini. You could buy a tube of volcano mud for fett at 48 $ for 8 Oz. In the mid 1990's. He also purchased the Marcella Borghese cosmetics factory and all of its equipment. Revlon had nothing to do with its demise. It was bankrupt for a decade before Yamani bought it. |

| I have acquired an original .25 fl ounce of Princess Marcella Di Borghese perfume. I don't wear this fragrance and am interested in selling it. The bottle is full although the silver plastic cap has a small crack in it. |

| The History Of PRINCESS MARCELLA DI BORGHESE |
Princess Marcella Borghese
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marcella Borghese, born Marcella Fazi, (1911 – January 19, 2002) was a manufacturer of cosmetics.
Marcella Fazi was born in Sicily in 1911. In 1938 she became the second wife of the widowed nobleman Paolo Borghese, Duke of Bomarzo and Prince of Sant’ Angelo of San Paolo, and acquired the title of Princess. Records of her titles and that of the family can be found in the Office of Consulta Araldica in Rome. She gave birth to two twin boys, Francesco and Livio, the same year. She also had a daughter, Anita Mauritzi, from a previous marriage.
The fashion-conscious princess had toiletries, including makeup, made specifically for her using the natural ingredients found around the Villa Borghese in Rome, where the family lived. She wanted to create a line of lipsticks in a wider variety of shades than what was available at the time, and once Pope Pius XII gave the cosmetics his blessing pushed forward with the idea.
Charles H. Revson
In 1956, Italian-American businessman Gino DiGrandi introduced Borghese to cosmetics magnate, Charles Revson, the founder of Revlon. The two struck up a lifelong friendship, as he helped her to create her cosmetics line, and bought it as a subsidiary of the company.
Revlon, a mainstay brand in department stores at the time, was losing market share to newcomer Estée Lauder, whose higher price points and limited distribution strategy edged out the more established brands. Most of the competition took notice, and countered with department store-exclusive brands: Coty launched Dina Merrill; Fabergé had Juliette Marglen; Charles of the Ritz purchased the already established Alexandra de Markoff and Lanvin; Max Factor's contribution was called Geminesse; and, of course, Revlon's contribution was Princess Marcella Borghese. While most of these names invoked status and prestige, Revlon's was the only one associated with legitimate royalty.
One of Borghese's first collections included brightly colored lipsticks and nail colors to match the vivid colors of her fashion designer friend, Emilio Pucci's knitwear. Her Montecatini Cosmetic line, named after her favorite spa, (and an ancient town in Tuscany), used the healing properties of the Terme di Montecatini mud and the mineral waters. The innovative Princess was one of the first people to create a skincare line which was based on the natural therapies of a spa.
Borghese (as the line came to be known as) was the most enduring and successful of the aforementioned brands.
After Charles Revson's death in 1975, Revlon president Michel Berjerac pulled the Revlon brand out of department store distribution altogether, citing rising costs, changing consumer tastes, a corporate shift from cosmetics to consumer goods at Revlon, and the progressively shrinking significance of department stores. Without Revlon's millions of dollars in sales, Borghese (and the entire Revlon prestige portfolio) became very small, insignificant players in an arena that would be dominated by Cosmair (later L'Oréal) and Estée Lauder. Borghese's presence began to weaken, as retailers consolidated floor space to the more profitable brands. Revlon's entire prestige portfolio would stagnate for the next several years, trailing along as rivals ate away at their increasingly shrinking market share.
Ownership of Revlon changed in 1985 (in the infamous takeover by Ronald Perelman's Pantry Pride), and new ownership sold off Revlon's non-cosmetics businesses to renew its focus on beauty. Borghese was infused with marketing and research & development capital. The brand regained market share as a luxury niche brand.
Post Revlon:
Although the prestige portfolio, under Ronald Perelman's leadership, would grow to include many other high-end brands, by 1996 Revlon sold Borghese and the Halston fragrance license to Saudi investors. Halston-Borghese, as it became known, was owned by the investment group until 2000 when it was sold to American Georgette Mosbacher, who had success with the La Prairie brand in the early 1990s. She dropped the Halston reference and again the line was known as simply Borghese.
Costco and Beyond:
In 2007 Georgette Mosbacher took the brand into Costco, launching a sub-brand, Kirkland Signature by Borghese. The classic Borghese line is currently exclusive to Lord and Taylor and Bloomingdale's department stores. It is also sold in regional apothecaries and drugstores. In an October 2008 Vogue Magazine interview, Georgette Mosbacher stated, "Borghese is a profitable name. I have plans to turn Borghese into a lifestyle brand over time which will include bedding, home furnishings and personal accessories. In the face of so much consolidation, brands need to think beyond the obvious markets. I feel we can reach new groups of consumers with these additions."
In October 2009, Borghese became the first cosmetics house to launch a line of home textiles for the bedroom. The Villa di Borghese collection is composed of bed pillows, comforters and throws. It is the result of a licensing agreement between Borghese Inc. And United Feather and Down. The line launched in Bloomingdale's on October 15th 2009 and will be exclusive to Bloomingdale's stores.
There is also currently a Borghese nailcare collection available in most major drugstore chains including Walgreens, CVS, Longs and Rite Aid. The nailcare collection launched in 2008 through a licensing agreement with Coty Inc.
Plans are in place to introduce an eyeware collection through a licensing deal with Icon Eyeware.
Marcella Borghese remained involved in the line named after her until her death in 2002 in her home in Montreux, Switzerland. She was 90 years old, and was buried in the family crypt at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. |

| I loved the original Ecco by Marcell Di Borghese. I purchased it for my mother at Nordstrom in Seattle because the fragrance was so much like her beloved "Joy" (which I could not afford at the time). For those trying to find a fragrance that smells like Ecco..."Joy" is great...however very spendy. |

| WOW! I haven't thought of this beautiful fragrance in over 25 years. I remember my father's girlfriend used to wear it everyday, and bought me one for my birthday. I absolutely loved it, and would not wear anything else. He reminded me a few days ago about that bottle, and I immediately jumped up and got on the internet to try and find it. It saddens me that it is gone, so if anyone knows where I can find it at a reasonable price, please let me know. I would be so happy to once again wrap myself in that intoxicating aroma! |

However I found a source at www.thefragrancefactory.com
That still sells the original perfumed soaps, and the fragrance on them is still wonderful. Much cheeper then trying to purchace the perfume since its long gone and way too expensive. The perfumed soap cakes I can put in my dresser
And everything smells wonderful, or you can use them in your bath, either way they smell great..

| I have a 1.6fl oz bottle of princess marcella borghese XII giardini di montecatini perfumed oil. I've had it for years and have only used it a couple of times so it's 3/4 full. It has been stored in its original round box in a dark cabinet so still smells like it did years ago! I can't find any information on this perfume so would love it if someone could enlighten me! Also whilst clearing out my late mothers house recently I also found a full bottle of the perfumed oil above (we bought them the same time years ago!) My mother had obviously never touched hers!. Anybody interested? |

| Hi Kiki, It is two bottles of the perfumed oil that I have. One is full and never used and the other is 3/4 full. I have spent months trying to research this perfume but only managed to find a bottle of the spray for $499! I can't seem to find any information on the perfume oil that I have which is so frustrating. I am thinking of selling them so contact me at nancy@catref.plus.com if you are still interested. |
