Nine Flags Men's Cologne

I am looking for the Nine Flags Men's colgnes, popular in the late 60' early 70', particularly in the small atomizer bottles. Anyone having a suggestion as to where I might find them.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
I just bought a set of 6 bottles on ebay, my Dad has searched for 37 years for Spain!

They were sold as an unopened set and that appears true. Since we're keeping Spain, I opened the bottle and it still smells fresh. I'll be selling the rest on ebay within the next week. I'll post England, France (unfortunately, a bit leaked in shipping!), Hong Kong, Italy, and Germany! My ebay username is the same name listed here.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
Oddly enough I have embarked on my own search for the Nine Flags , for no particularly good reason, but rather because I bought a set many years ago in Filene's Basement in Boston when I was in college and as Christmas approaches I am feeling nostalgic about such things. I wonder if I would still like them if successful in finding them.
In any case I too would appreciate knowing if there is still a source for them.

I have learned that the original manufacturer was the Colton Company- not a firm that I am familiar with. They must not be manufactured anymore or they wouldn't be so hard to find.

I have the nine flags shaving cologne set. England, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, France are full. Spain, Hong Kong are more than half full. Italy & Brazil have a little. I also have the box that they came and most of the foam caps are in the box , but it is in fair shape. For being over 30 years old the labels, bottles, and caps are in excellent shape. Very collectable, vintage set. I will be selling them on Ebay soon. But if you have any questions. Please Call me. 270-570-4529. Greg Kimble

John, the name of the company that made the NINE FLAGS COLOGNE is ""The Colton company of Boston, Mass.

I have a complete set of Nine Flags Cologne Bottles that I have been trying to sell on EBAY for $1,000.

All of the nine bottles do not have the original fragrances. My brothers and have used the cologne frequently over the last 40 years.

The price is dicated by the rarity of the set. I have been unable to find these bottles anywhere in the internet world.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
It was almost Nirvana today. I hit an estate sale, & among the Old Spice, Hai Karate, Canoe, Jade East, and Nuts AND Bolts(don't freak, I'll go back), were four partial bottles of Nine Flags: Panache/France: 3/4+ full; Royal Saddle/Great Britain: 3/4+ full; Clear Spruce/Sweden: 3/4+ full; Green Moss/Ireland: -1/2 full. These are the smaller bottles that came nestled in a styrofoam box, so the person they belonged to had probably used up the other five. Or horribly, like my Mom, figured the bottles all looked the same, so combined Patcham with Manzanilla, but at least that happened in about 1970, & I was able to buy new ones. Those were the days, & those replacements lasted me until about 1992! I also have a nearly full 4 oz. Bottle of Dry Citrus/Italy with styro box from my collection. I'd like to find a bottle of Patcham, maybe do a swap for some or all of them, but would also sell them. I had to let you folks know before I listed them on Ebay, probably next week. BTW, check out the My Islands Majorca listing on Ebay. Also by Colton, after Nine Flags. Never heard of it

Hi, I'm always up for purchasing Nine Flags cologne(s) at a fair price. Ebay isn't a great place to buy them because virtually all the bidders are sellers who just alternate jacking up the price. Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, Sweden, Monaco, Morocco, Ireland, England, Italy, Germany, US and France are favs in that order. LMK now or whenever. Thanks!

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
When I was a mere child (somewhere between 11 and 15 years old would be my guess), my big brother gave me a 4-bottle set in the foam container, Aromatic Tabac, Clear Spruce, Green Moss and Dry Citrus. What a classy gift, even for a kid. I was too young to know what a good cologne was, and what good colognes he had given me. All I knew was that I loved them. I had my favorites. I used them sparingly. I'm 54 now. Still have the not-yet-empty bottles all tucked away and I dread using them for fear of running out! Why would a company stop producing these?!!! I'm so glad to find I'm not the only person who remembers them. I don't use colognes much, when I do I tend to just splash on an inexpensive "drugstore" green or musk aftershave. I have been longing to find good scents lately and I remember my Nine Flags and would like more. I see none on Ebay or anywhere else today. Guess I'll have to settle for "similar" scents if there are any. Can anyone suggest some? (I'm still ignorant of the various colognes available but only know I loved the Nine Flags.)

You never know what you will find at a thrift store. I looked into the glass display case at a local thrift store, that frequently has "drug store" fragrances like old spice, english leather, british sterling,etc..And there was the shocking sight of not one,not two,..But eigth nearly full bottles of NINE FLAGS COLOGNE. All were there ,except for the Panache(France). The next thing that was a shock,..(Pleasant though) was the price for each bottle,..$1.95 each!!! I think that they originally were about $1 each in 1969.Nedless to say ,I snapped them all up in a hurry!,..Gary.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
No, there was no Monaco, only the originals(minus the France) I think Monaco came out later as part of a special 3 bottle set(Monaco ,Luxemborg,Lictenstein?)You can still see people selling the ads from the old magazines of the day like Life,Look, Time, MCcalls,etc..(E-BAY). I dont think I will sell any of these , as I too had been searching for a number of years. I even paid over $60 for 1 bottle on E-BAY(Germany, Live oak) To think that I would find 8 mostly full bottles, and to purchase them all for less than $ 17.00. The thrift store that I found these at purchases (at auction) the contents of storage spaces where folks have not paid their fees, so it gets quite a variety from all over the country. I once even saw a bottle of the elusive DANTE COLOGNE there, but didnt know what a rarity it was,so it was gone on my return trip.,..Gary.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
Please.......there has to be a complete set of Nine Flags out there somewhere!! I bought it back in the mid 60's for the men in my life. I can think about it and recall some of the heady exotic aroma's. I can't believe something so arousing and sensual, not icky sweet like most, would be no longer made. Anybody with any information, please write.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
Cool down there, Brandy Lee :-)! Yes, sets show up on ebay every now and then...for about $200 - $300. So do individual bottles...for $50 - $80. For the time being, you might want to try a great substitute for the Hong Kong Patcham. It's Joop! classic (the purple stuff). Others have mentioned this as well and it's true. VERY close and Hong Kong, along with Spain (Manzanila, my favorite) and Brazil (Aromatic Tabac) were the top 3 favorites. Good luck! Richard

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
Hello Richard, you mentioned in an earlier post that your favoritr was Manzanila and Tabac. At the end of this page there is an ad for Tabac, by Maurer Wirtz. Would you happen to know if this is even remotely close to Nine Flags? It seems anything else since the Nine Flags leaves me sort of "green" feeling as do women that bathe in cheap perfume. I use a blend of exotic essential oils that are blended for my body chemistry. Needless to say I smell more than wonderful. And you should wear your Nine Flags, ooh la la was an understatement........
posted 01/08/09 by Brandy Lee

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
It's not easy being "green." The Tabac you mention is not even close save for the name. The problem with the whole nine flags line is that Colton, the company that produced nine flags, never published a scent guide, a detailed listing of the foundation and dominant scents, so they could be replicated. I've looked. I've been looking for something that replicates manzanila forever. An aside, I think it's fascinating that you have scent blended specifically for your body chemistry. Where was I when they gave out those jobs?!

Re: Nine Flags Cologne/ Richard Manzinilla
Richard,I opened my bottle of Manzinilla yesterday and think it sort of reminds me of Pierre Cardin (amber color in a clear "microphone" shaped bottle with a chrome top.It was popular in the 80s . The initial scent that I detect is an anise smell, similar to Paul sebastian, or the 1800s(dont remember the exact number) by Brooks Brothers. Then the cologne develops into the more subdued scent of the Pierre Cardin(or possibly like Lagerfeld(also an amber colored cologne) Let me know if any of these are close in your oppinion,asI think all three are still available today, and relatively inexpensive( except for the Brooks Brothers one) Regards,...Gary.
posted 02/05/09 by gary

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
Wow, Gary, Pierre Cardin. Now there's a golden oldie! It's possible, I guess. The Manzanilla always reminded me of -- surprise -- vanilla. As for the Lagerfeld (which used to be a favorite), it reminds me of the the smell of new J&J first aid adhesive tape. Honest! I still use it. So, perhaps I like the Manzanilla because it combines scents of other favorites.

Re: Nine Flags Men's Cologne
I just bought a set of all nine bottles of Nine Flags, in the foam container bottom, on ebay, but each bottle is only about half full. Total price was $50 plus $15 for shipping. They had not been listed for long. They were sold by the original owner who got them as a gift in 1964 -- 45 years ago. I also had a gift set I got in the late sixties. In 1974 I drove to California from Texas. I stopped on a narrow road on a high hill in the northern California countryside and looked down on the golden grass waving in the wind. I was delighted to find that the breeze carried the scent of the Manzanilla cologne. I am wondoring if the scent will take me back -- to northern California and to 1974.

My heart is broken. Immediately after posting my last message, about buying a complete set of nine partially filled bottles on ebay for $50, the seller emailed me that he had made a terrible mistake. He had meant the buy-it-now price to be $500, not $50. Because I live by the Golden Rule, I forgave the mistake and accepted a refund. For those of you with more funds than I, the set should be relisted soon.
