Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Hi Karen, I also have some Musky Jasmine to sell......two full bottles that I've had in storage for like 15 or 20 years.
May I ask what amount you sold yours for?
I have no idea what to ask for them.
I suppose I could try selling them on ebay, But I need to have an idea what they are going for...I know they are rare.
Thanks, Daisy

I purchased some from ebay in oil form for $1.25. It was not "loves" brand and doesn't really smell exact. I have not mixed it with alchol yet so I don't know if it will change the scent. If anyone has any suggestions pease pass them along.

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
I found this message board trying to find Love's Jasmine cologne, thinking that it was the Soft Jasmine I was looking for but realizing it was the Musky Jasmine. I distinctly remember the tallish plastic bottle with purple cologne and the rounded purple top. This was my scent all through high school and would love to get my hands on a bottle if it again.

In response to contacting Dana Classic Fragrances, I sent the company an email through their website.

I agree that if we inundate them with requests, maybe they'll bring the scent back.

There are several half bottles (but they're big bottles to begin with... 1.75 oz) of Love's Musky Jasmin for sale in an eBay store right now, for only $9.99 plus $4.95 shipping. The number of that sale on eBay is "5590199669".

I am not affiliated with this seller or their sales, I just bought this same size bottle from this same seller is all (paid a lot more though... Mine was FULL!) and I can tell you it smells like it always did!

This message is for Daisy: Do you still have your bottles of Love's Musky Jasmine? When I was in high school, my best friend and I wore it. Sadly, she passed away when I was 16. I sure do miss that smell and would love a bottle or two. If you, or anyone else out there, have the original (I don't trust the copycats to smell just right), I'd love to hear from you.

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine
Hi everyone. I do know of where you can still get your hands on a very few old stock orignal bottles of Musky Jasmine...
But it's not cheap. I remember paying around 5 or 7 dollars for it when it was still being made, now it'll cost you around $65.00.
I bought 2 for myself and I decided to keep them.
You gotta really love this stuff to pay that much for it....but I really really love it and the fact that it's gone except for a few rare bottles found by people who specialize in finding discontinued perfumes/colognes is how they can justify charging us so much.
I'll only give her email to serious customers.......also I don't want to her to sell out so that I can never get another bottle when mine is gone.
It kills me to pay that much for an old favorite but I know it's rare.

I HAVE A BOTTLE OF LOVE'S MUSKY JASMIN. IT IS THE SAME PERFUME WE ALL LOVE. I BOUGHT 2 BOTTLES OF THIS AFTER SEARCHING FOR YEARS AND I AM WILLING TO LET SOMEONE ELSE BUY A BOTTLE FROM ME BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT THIS PERFUME MEANS TO SO MANY PEOPLE. THIS BOTTLE IS ALMOST FULL...IT IS THE BIG BOTTLE OF IT...1.75 OZ. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THE NOZZLE IS CLOGGED UP. I AM SURE IT CAN BE FIXED THOUGH. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT THEN YOU CAN TRANSFER IT INTO A DIFFERENT BOTTLE OR MAYBE HAVE THIS NOZZLE REPLACED. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT DOING THAT. I PAID A TON OF MONEY FOR THESE BOTTLES. I AM KEEPING ONE FOR MYSELF LOL...TO USE SPARINGLY. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED PLEASE LET ME KNOW. EMAIL ME AT carissa_spicer@yahoo.com. I WILL ACCEPT A MONEY ORDER ONLY. I AM SELLING THIS BOTTLE FOR THE SAME AMOUNT THAT I PAID FOR IT. THE FIRST PERSON WHO RESPONDS TO THIS AND SENDS A MONEY ORDER WITHIN 1 WEEK TIME GETS THIS. I KNOW THIS BOTTLE WON'T LAST LONG. I AM PUTTING THIS UP ON SEVERAL SITES. NOW FOR THE BAD PART...THE PRICE LOL! I PAID $75.00 FOR THIS AND CAN'T SELL IT FOR ANY LESS. SOME OF YOU MAY THINK THAT I AM CRAZY BUT I LOVE THIS PERFUME AND IT WAS WORTH IT TO ME. IF INTERESTED EMAIL RIGHT AWAY, THANKS :)

Hi annie, does it smell like musky jasmin? where did you find it? lynn
posted 12/12/05 by Lynn

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Hi Lynn -- it is lighter and sweeter than the Musky Jasmin. Very pleasant flowery fresh smell, not that different than the Musky except maybe more daytimeish. I got it on eBay, it came from Canada. (I think I paid 20 dollars for it, I can't remember the shipping amount.) It is a 40 ml (1.5 oz?) bottle that was packaged together in a clear plastic rectangle box with two pots of lip gloss. (The lip glosses are a bit the worse for time, they are still unused and brightly colored but have that faint old rancid smell like cheap lipstick that sat for a while.) The sticker on the bottom of the bottle says Love's Soft Jasmin, Houbigant [1995] LTEE LAVAL, and on the plastic clear box container (which is covered with little pink hearts) the sticker says the same but also says QUEBEC. (Canada.) The bottle appears totally full until you remove the lilac colored domed lid and then you can see the very top part of the bottle may have experienced a little bit of evaporation. Only the portion under the cap (maybe 1/6th?) is gone. And really, they might only have filled them that full to begin with, since that part is hidden under the lid. (?) It has the kind of spray with a tube inside the bottle. It sprays very well. The cologne itself is a soft pale lilac/lavender color, with a lilac/lavender lid. This is about all I can think of to tell you about it!

Yes, I definitely agree that the Musky Jasmin is certainly even harder to find (and costs more to get when you do!) and if somebody has some they want to sell or trade that's great. But I haven't been able to find the Soft Jasmin just "anywhere" or I wouldn't have bought some from Canada (I live in CA!) But it's up to people if they want it or not, I have one that is available. (I think the shipping for priority is $3.85.)

Love's Musky Jasmine...........
Okay - I can't believe I found a webpage that's soley devoted to Musky Jasmine. I have been searching for this perfume since it went OFF the shelves in 1986. I bought a 1/2 a bottle of it on ebay last year and I won't wear it in fear of never being able to find another bottle to buy. I am determined to contact a perfume manufacturer who can and will copy the scent and market it under a new name. The Musky Jasmine scent is so incredible it would be a sin for women to have to go through life never having experienced it. Just think about how lucky we are to have been around in the 80's when it came out. There are young girls today who were born in the late 80's/early 90's who have no idea what Musky Jasmine is! Poor things. I have written letter after letter to "Dana Perfumes" who bought it from "Loves" back in the day and they said they don't make it anymore. But If I ever find a scent even remotely close to it I will post the name on this site. In the meantime I'll do research as to how to get someone to re-release it.

Love's Musky Jasmine
If anyone would like to write a letter to Dana perfumes, who manufactured Musky Jasmine in the 80's, here is their address:

Dana Classic Fragrances, Canada, Inc.
208 Evans Avenue
Etobicoke, ON M8Z 1 J7

Regular Loves baby soft is still on the shelves. With this webpage and everyones testimonies as back-up, I'm gonna contact them and show them that it was a huge mistake for them to discontinue Musky Jasmine. Imagine the sales they would make today if it were out again - they were nuts for ever taking it off the shelves in the first place. More later........

Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
GREAT NEWS! I did some research on the internet and found that Dana Perfumes has supposedly re-released "Love's Soft Jasmine" which was what came out AFTER "Dana Perfumes" bought Love's Musky Jasmine from "Chattem" in the early 80's. I found it on Amazon.com and typed in Love's Soft Jasmine. A woman wrote a review on it:

All-Time Favorite!, April 27, 2006
This is my all-time favorite fragrance - I used to have strangers stop me all the time and ask me what I was wearing, usually men! I was heartbroken when I could no longer find it 7-8 years ago. I did a search a couple of years ago on the internet and couldn't find much on it. I was thrilled when I tried again today and found several hits - Dana must have recently bought the rights to the name and brought it back. It used to be manufactured by Chatham. Even better was the original Love's Musky Jasmine, but they changed the formula in the early 80's and changed it to Love's Soft Jasmine - almost as good. The original version only had slight musky undertones, but I guess by the late 70's/early 80's, the musk trend was over, and they thought they needed to drop it. However, it still has a huge cult following, so it wasn't just me who loved it! Anyway, if the new Love's Soft Jasmine version by Dana is unchanged from the previous Chatham version of same, I am still delighted.

If Dana actually is making it again, it's better than nothing! But hopefully they will soon go back to making the Musk formula. They need letters to be written to them! I found out where Dana's new Headquarters is:

New Dana Perfumes Corporation
6353 W. Rogers Circle
Suite 1A

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Heather - I bought on eBay (a while back) a 3/4 full, 1.75 oz bottle of Love's Musky Jasmin (no 'e' by the way) by Chattem. The seller had said that the "sprayer was clogged and may need to transfer perfume into another bottle." Yeah, right. What it really was, was the propellant pressure inside was totally GONE and so the thing just won't spray (no clog about it!) So no way to get it out of the bottle, the perfume is trapped in there and I can't figure out how to get it out. (Has a metal neck crimped to a glass bottle, originally under pressure, not an easy thing to try and open up!) Any suggestions, I'll be happy to share some of it. (?!) Let me know...

Love's Musky Jasmin
Annie, Sorry I have no idea how to resolve your problem of not being able to retrieve the perfume out of the bottle BUT where there's a will, there's a way. There's got to be a way to remove the nozzle. I will take a look at mine when I get home to see if I can figure out a way to help you. If the top can be put on, it can be taken off. Anyway..........

TO ALL: I wrote to the address I listed before about bringing Musky Jasmin back and the letter came back to me as "Undeliverable - Company unknown". So I did more research. Supposedly, "New Dana Perfumes" is no more. They were bought out by "Dana Classic Fragrances, Inc." and I found them online. I wrote the CEO, CFO and COO a letter demanding they manufacture the perfume again. Here is the contact info if anyone is interested in writing or calling them:

Dana Classic Fragrances, Inc.
720 S. Powerline Rd., Suite D
Deerfield Beach, FL 33442

Phone: 954-725-6810
Fax: 954-725-6811

President and CEO: Isaac F. Cohen
COO: Scott Gruskin
CFO: Gina Zimarelli

I mailed out my letters yesterday so hopefully I'll get a response! If you would like to read up on what I found out about Dana Classic Fragrances, Inc., Here is the web address:

I hand-typed in the above address so incase you have difficulty accessing the page (incase I made a mistake), just look up the company name or "Hoovers.com". It says on this page that this company is interested in re-releasing extinct fragrances from the past, so that's good news! Though it only mentions perfumes like Heaven Sent, Tabu, Chantilly, etc. - but I think that if us girls make an effort to contact them and show how much of a love we have for Musky Jasmine, they'll bring it back! More later................

To Heather:

Hi!

I have found a website that can give you the geneology of the scents you love:

Scentdirect.com

Unfortuneatly, they don't list Musky Jasmine.

I wrote to them asking to see if they could find it and post the geneology. With the geneology, they can approximate the scent with others close to it.

May be you could write to them, as well. May be if enough of us do, then we'll get somewhere?

Anybody remember Love's Rain scent in the blue color???

I honestly thought I was crazy! So I WAS right-- the purple Musky Jasmine WAS different than Soft Jasmine (Soft Jasmine wasn't nearly as heady or powerful!).

I love Musky Jasmine. I have great memories of carrying it in my purse and using it in High School! :D

WARNING: I received the immitation version of Musky Jasmin yesterday from timelessperfumes.com and it IS NOT anywhere near the original version. I just wasted 40 bucks. But it's a learning experience. Luckily they have a 30 day money back guarentee so I'm sending it back asap. So just so you women out there know (as other women on this page have also warned) DO NOT BUY IMMITATIONS! I have to call Dana Classic Fragrances to see if they got my letter. More later......

Lily,

I forgot to respond to your message - Sorry!. I totally remember the Love's Rain scent. I liked it alot - not as much as Musky Jasmin of course, but yes, it smelled great. I recently purchased 4 small bottles of "Love's Soft Jasmin" on ebay and it is similar but just as you said, not anywhere near as powerful of a scent - and the "musk" is missing! I think that the musk ingredient is key - especially because I'm sure that it's "musk oil" and oil carries and holds more of a fragrance than just a watered down/alchohol type consistency. I think that they brought back Soft Jasmine because I saw it for sale on Amazon (after I purchased the bottles off of ebay). But why they chose to bring that one back versus the orginal Musky version is beyond me. It's a nice scent, but it fades fast and is too "Soft". And same as you, the scent brings back great high school memories (of 1985 and '86 for me!).

Love's Musky Jasmin
As per Marie on this message board, did anyone look up "timelessperfumes.com"? I just took a look back at the messages and saw hers so I looked it up. I guess that this is possibly why Dana hasn't re-launched Musky Jasmin? Because another company has cloned the fragrance and beat them to it. Anyway, THANK YOU MARIE! I looked at the website and it does claim to be the original scent, though the bottle looks alot different but that's not important. How did you find this Marie? Many many thanks to you. I am going to order a bottle and compare it to my original bottle of MJ and see if it's the same. Here is the link Marie suggested for those of you interested in trying it out:

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Be warned about cloned scents... I also love Revlon's Intimate Musk (remember that? Purple lid, red entwined couple on the bottle? Just a great scent!), and another company, Jean-Phillippe, bought the rights to that fragrance and is currently manufacturing it.

Don't know what's wrong, either they are using cheaper ingredients or I don't know what, but it does NOT smell the same (I bought some and did a test, I still have some Revlon's too.) It is simply not as good and is not exact or even that close (to me.)

In fact it smells like those perfumes they sell in the parking lots (fabulous fakes?), and they have Triclosan in it, in their ingredients list, which is actually a germicide(!), so that's weird! :P

Anyway, beware of remade scents by different companies, they usually cheat on ingredients, _I_ think.

Thanks for the warning Annie. I believe what your saying is true because I remember those designer imposters back in the 80's and I didn't think they smelled EXACTLY like the scent they were copying. But I'll give this new stuff a shot. In the meantime, I hope that my letter will open some eyes over there at the corporate headquarters. We can only hope. I will definately let you know how good this immitation stuff is when I get it. Also, I'm gonna see if my boyfriend can open my bottle of MJ at home today and I'll tell you how he did it if he does. And don't worry about sharing some of yours with me - that stuff is gold. I wonder if Marie who wrote Timeless Perfumes actually bought some. She said it was the same stuff.

Annie, sorry to have gotten back to you so late. Bad news - we (my boyfriend actually) cannot get the top off the bottle without possibly breaking the bottle. The pliers actually dented the metal on the cap so I think it's now on there tighter than it was before. Anyway, still no word from Dana in response to my letter. I'm going to call there Monday morning and see if I can speak to someone about it.

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Thanks anyway for trying, Heather. (Yes, I can't figure out how to get into that bottle and it's driving me crazy... There's all that wonderful perfume in there and no way to use it!) :(

So did you get your refund on that fake/remake Musky Jasmin? (Which is how it is really spelled in the original version, there's no e on the end, which looks wrong but that's their spelling!)

Unfortunately most remakes (of ANY of the old special perfumes) are just NOT the same. *Sigh*

Vermont Country Store recently began remaking the Coty Sweet Earth products, but a person who tried those said they just didn't have staying power like the original ones and although they smelled close were still not quite IT (good thing they don't last as long then, huh? Ha ha. Only kidding.)

Anyway, good luck finding some REAL Musky Jasmin... (I've got some but it isn't doing me much good!) :P Actually I've also got a tiny bit left in another bottle still, but I save it for very special occasions, since I can't get any more! (Unless I can get into my nonspraying bottle anyway!) ??!!

Oh, Thanks for the heads up and for saving me the $$.

You know, I have a sneaky suspicion that it's because there are probably men in charge of marketing at Dana Classic Fragrances, that such decisions have been made. They apparently don't have a clue as to how wildly popular and money making it could be.

I tried contacting Dana Fragrances and found the one number has been changed and they moved to somewhere else in Fla. What contact info do you have????

Love's Musky Jasmin
Hey Annie,

I luckily found a perfume shop at "Tin City" in Naples Florida 2 weeks ago that carried lots of discontinued perfumes (or old perfumes that are still around but very hard to find) and found some awesome scents, but unluckily they of course did not have any musky jasmine. They did have Heaven Sent, Tabu, Chantilly, Charlie, Alfred Sung (from 1987), Anais Anais and some Coty ones from like 30 years ago, etc. It was pretty cool - I spent over an hour in there (and could've spent longer if I didn't have a plane to catch). I have the business card at home and will list it's name and phone number incase there's any other "old" scent you might be looking for - you never know, they might carry it! Or, if you ever happen to be there you can stop by - it's the only perfume shop at Tin City. I didn't look, but there's an old perfume that's been discontinued in the late 90's called "Alexander Julian" - I actually have a practically full bottle of it too. Did you ever try it? I never use it for the same reason I never use my Musky Jasmin - afraid of never finding it again. It's a great scent too. I should've looked for it at the perfume shop in Naples but I was so busy looking for other stuff it slipped my mind. Well, I haven't had a chance to call Dana Classic Fragrances yet, but my letter never came back to me so I'm assuming they've received it. I will definately contact them next week though when I have time. 'Till then, have a Happy Valentines Day!

I looked online and found the name of the place in Tin City - it's called "The Perfume Place" - this is what it says about it online:

"Looking for perfume, cosmetics or skin care products? You'll find it all at Perfume Palace. Over 600 different fragrances of perfume including designer and hard to find items - all sold for less than retail and below duty free prices. We carry collectibles by Cat's Meow and a unique collection of Caribbean art, accessories and gifts with a tropical theme".

Anyway, their phone number is (239) 430-1108 for any of you who might be looking for a hard to find perfume from YEARS ago.

Hey Heather and everybody:

My email just notified me of your reply way back in jan.

I'm so sorry about my lag in response.

I just looked at the timeless perfume Musky Jasmin.
I'm seriously considering buying it.

Has anyone tried it yet??? I'd been interested in knowing if it smells like the real thing!

I'm also going to check that website I found to see if it's there, but I doubt it will be there yet. You can check the Perfume geneology there.

Lily - DON'T BUY FROM TIMELESS PERFUMES! I bought it and it's not AT ALL like Musky Jasmin. I have to return my bottle for a full refund. Don't waste your money. I can't believe that Musky Jasmin was discontinued - out of all scents to get rid of THAT is the biggest one NOT to! Anyway, trust me - timeless perfumes is not the solution by any means. We somehow have to have the original brought back. I said before, I'm going to contact Dana Classic Fragrances in Florida next week and follow up on my letter to them.

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
I hope this post is not out of place and that I am handling it right ...

To explain in a nutshell, I am doing a major clearing out of my "stash" of bath goodies, etc., and posting the whole list for sale/swap on a web forum I frequent

I was double-checking some other sites, though, to come up with the appropriate amount to offer some items at, and discovered this thread when I was trying to figure out how much to offer my bottle of Love's Musky Jasmin for ...

Yup. I've got one ... 1.75 fl. Oz, full, and in pretty much perfect condition (did a sample spritz this afternoon, no clogging, etc.).

Like most of you, it was one of the perfect scents of my youth and I was ecstatic to come across a bottle online a few years ago. Not cheap but to me it was worth it ... However, I'm not a teenager anymore and for whatever reason, while I love the scent, it does not work on me at all and I can't wear it ...

Reading all the testimonials on this thread, while I'm sure I could sell it off on the other board, I can't help but feel I should put it up for sale here first since you folks are the ones who would most appreciate it ...

I also can't find a bottle of this online ANYWHERE to even figure out the proper price ... So trying to average out the different prices I've seen listed here, I'm going to go with an even figure of $50.

I hope that seems fair (and I take PayPal). And I KNOW that none of you know me from Adam so I can understand if no one wants to go this route ... So I tell you what.

If someone wants to purchase it from me at $50 I'm giving you all first shot here ... I'll contact the first person to post who is interested ... If no one wants to within the week, I'll include it in my other listing.

Hope this is an acceptable way to try to part with a beloved item that I want to go into good hands (and wrists and behind the ears) that will appreciate it! :)

Now if I could only find someone selling Andiamo by Borghese :/

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Heather, I will e-mail you now ... I have not heard back from Karin after e-mailing a few days ago so have taken the "pending" off of the bottle and it's back on the market ...

And my reason for selling it ... I still love the scent but it just doesn't smell good ON me anymore ...

So when I was reading this thread and saw how many people still loved it and were looking for it, I figured it would be good karma to sell it to someone who would use it instead of letting it sit in my cabinet full and unused.

Anyway, I'll e-mail you now ...

Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
I can't believe this!! Love's Musky Jasmin is my all-time FAVORITE!!! Years back, when I found out it was discontinued, I called the company and bought 10 bottles. I have 1 left that I just started using sparingly 'cause I love it so much, and I still get comments when I wear it. Even though it's been sitting around 10 years, the scent never faded.
I know I'm way too late with this email, but at least I now have a resource to try to find it. If that happens, believe me, I'll let you know.

The Soft Jasmin can't compare It has to be the original. I even went somewhere that mixes fragrances, and they just couldn't get it right.

As for the crimped top on that 1 bottle that you can't get off, I had one of those, and if I remember correctly, I used a very tiny screwdriver like in an eyeglass repair kit and managed to get under 1 of the crimps, and I finally got it off. Please wear gloves and goggles when you do this in case the bottle breaks ( mine didn't). Good luck.
Thanks, everyone, for all your information. I had no idea all you ladies are as hung up on this scent as I am. The company should have NEVER stopped making this. I plan to write them, too. Deanna

I think if everyone writes and/or calls they will see that theres a high demand for Musky Jasmin - every effort counts. They'd have to be complete idiots to ignore the requests of loyal customers. Re: Love's Musky Jasmine, Karen M
Dina,

You might be able to, occasionally, find MJ on ebay. I bought quite a few bottles of it over the past few years on ebay. I love the stuff but even though it still smells the same, it unfortunately doesn't last more than one minute once applied to the skin or clothing. I am going to combine what I have into one large atomizer somehow, once I find one. When the bottles are old, the spray tops are most likely clogged so it is almost impossible to get any of the perfume out. The top somehow has to be broken off and the perfume transfered into a tightly secured container. Anyway, just some advice if you happen to find any online. This stuff is GOLD and there will never be anything like it. I have written Dana perfumes repeatadely about bringing it back only to have my requests ignored. If you would like to give it a try on your end, I listed the contact info for Dana on this blog somewhere above. I am hoping that others who love MJ as much as we do will also contact Dana Perfumes and request it's comeback. If I find any MJ for sale, I will let you know. In the meantime, best of luck with your search!

I got one voicemail from the CEO about a year ago and I returned his call with no response to it. What do we have to do to make them realize? I printed out this whole blog and mailed it to them also - didn't do anything so I eventually stopped contacting them, but I will start again since you are too. You should call and leave a message for the CEO - or fax a letter to his attention (I will do the same).

About the MJ on Amazon, I have to check it out. Is it a used bottle someone is selling on there or another imitation? I've learned over the years that NO ONE will ever copy this scent. Either Dana makes it the way they used to or we're outta luck.
