1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
Does anyone out there remember or know where to purchase something like the solid perfume compact I had in the mid 1970's? It may have been Coty or Yardley but not Avon. It had 3 scents, all 'grasses & mosses' if I recall correctly, and came in a solid color plastic compact.

Yes, I loved those! I had the Grasses (Hay, Clover, Gingergrass), and the exotic flowers (Ylang ylang, Honeysuckle and something else) and a friend and I were just talking about these. She found the Sweet Earth Woods (Sandalwood, Amberwood, and Patchouli) in an old purse, and they still smell good! I wish they'd bring those back. And yes, it was Coty, I think the line was called Sweet Earth Scents.

I have been looking for this, too. I called Coty, and the customer service rep said that the line was discontinued a "long time ago." If you have any luck tracking some down or if you find out something different, please let me know!

Maybe if we get enough people together, we could write a letter to Coty and ask them to consider bringing back these solid perfume compacts..

I found 2 of the solid compacts at The Vermont Country Store
Catalog. One has Ylang-Ylang , Honeysuckle & Hyacinth the
Other has Sandalwood, Amberwood & Patchouli. I think shipping etc. Was expensive but worth it. |

Vermontcountrystore.com they sell all products that are simply not made anymore, including the sweet earth perfume compacts. I bought one. They are like $19.99 each. Hope that helps.

Yes kim i had the same kind. Been looking for another even if it just the case. I got mine i guess in the early 80s . Carried the empty case with me for years. Till recently i lost it. Now i dont feel complete. The were comfort scents to me

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
I had a few of these and managed to keep one that's at least 20+ years old!! The compact is green and has four scents. One is Heather-on-the Hill, Juniper..., can't remember the rest as the inside tag came off.
Has anyone tried a perfume company that carries "discontinued" items? |

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I've been straining my brain to remember the name of the solid perfume compact I had. Sweet Earth, of course. I had the one with Honeysuckle, Ylang Ylang (my favorite) and hyacinth. I would love to find some of this. Great scents.

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
When I tripped onto this msg board the Coty solid perfume compact is exactly what I was thinking about. I loved the layers of the fragrance( think I had the one with ylang ylang). I had mine in the early 70s. Have seen now that many companies are coming out with solid sticks, but you dont often see them being promoted at the counters. Seems to me that there are a lot of folks out there who would be interested but I know that often is not enough for a marketing rep who is thinking this is passe. How about Coty doing a new retro revival and bringing these back? Nostalgic forces can be very strong....

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
I just wrote to Coty suggesting they bring these back, and got a nice letter in return. Of course, I don't know if they'll do anything! I mentioned that the 70's retro look is in this season, and the perfumes would be great, but I don't know how long it would take them to gear up for it. I would buy those scents in any form, but I did love the solid compacts.

Ty for taking the initiative to write coty about these...
And if they do take you up on that offer, perhaps they'll send us all on this message board a free sample compact some day! lol :-) |

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
Gosh I just posted a reply about these on some other thread. I can't *believe* after all these years I've found people who are so in love with these scents as I was. I had, like, every one of them. They came in multi-fragrance compacts and single fragrance compacts. Patchouli, grass and ylang-ylang were all favourites. I would do anything to be able to get my hands on these and, since the advent of the internet and e-bay, have spent much time looking...to no avail. I think I will e-mail Coty to see if they will consider bringing them back. Maybe if they hear from enough people, they'll consider it.

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
In the 1970's I had a black plastic solid perfume compact with the male and female symbols in silver intertwined and centered on the cover. I seem to recall it containing jasmine, tea rose and musk but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure it had tea rose and musk. I have no idea what happened to it which is annoying because I loved the scents and the design of the compact was so cool. I later had one of those beige Coty grassy ones but I didn't like it so much. Does anyone recall this black compact? Was it Coty too?

Hi, I'm Linda from TN I remember them I used to have them I liked the one with the honeysuckle in it, it was Coty Sweet Earth Perfume Compact and came in several different choice of fragrances. I loved them and I wish they would bring them back I would definately buy them. Maybe if there were enough requests made to Coty they might consider bringing them back.

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
I still have my Coty Sweet Earth Grass Fragrance compact. The scents are Clover, Gingergrass and Hay. The actual perfume stuff is long gone but I save it because the scents still linger in the container. I sure wish they'd reintroduce this one. I too wrote to Coty about it but it doesn't seem as if the perfume companies care much about us older gals, after all they took away my Heaven Sent too!!

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
Reading everyone's posts brought a smile to my face. I was also straining my brain to remember the 3rd fragram in the Earth Scents...I remembered sandalwood and patchouli, but amberwood escaped me. Coty would do well with us baby boomers to bring back the line.

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
The Vermont Country Store has brought back two of the Coty Sweet Earth perfume compacts for sale, $19.99 each, the "flowers" and the "woods". Each has three solid perfume scents in them. Just FYI! (BTW, there is another thread called Coty Sweet Earth here on the message board and it has a lot more info about these.)

Yes, Vermont Country Store does sell it...I bought one last year or so but for some reason it didn't smell quite as I had remembered, in fact it was so off, I have not been able to wear any of those scents. I've not been well so perhaps my illness is affecting the way things smell.
I'd be interesting in hearing others opinions on this. |

Re: 1970's Era Solid Perfume Compact
I just ordered a set that includes the ylang-ylang scent and honeysuckle. I ordered it from a company called the perfumed court. I'll let you know when it arrives if it smells as I remembered...on another tack, anyone out there remember those makeup kits that were sent out on a regular basis (sort of like the book clubs today?)? I received both the solid perfumes by Coty and a small bottle of Coty perfume that I don't recall had a separate name. Can anyone help or identify? Thanks.

This is awsome! Of all the comfort smells ever Coty's Earth Scents with hay, gingergrass, and clover are probably my favorite. My mother gave me her old compact back in the late 70's and I STILL have it. When life gets rough I just open it and go back to a safe place in my life. COTY PLEASE bring it back. I am waiting for a similar on to be restocked at Vermontcountrystore.com. They said they would get it towards late spring or early summer. EVERYONE go there and request it so they don't discontinue it!!!!!
