Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I can remember the heady fragrance of Tuvache Jungle Gardenia in the mid 60's when I worked in the cosmetics counter at a drug store as a teenager. Elizabeth Taylor's Gardenia is a ringer for it. I recall reading that Tuvache's Jungle Gardenia was a favorite of her's.

I tried the Gardenia cologne from longlostperfumes.com and found that it was nothing like the original Jungle Gardenia. I was very disappointed. It smells just like all the other ordinary gardenia sprays out there.

I have a bottle of Tuvache Gardenia from long lost perfumes. 22.50 for 2 ounce bottle. I have tried it and just can't seem to like it enough to wear it out of the house. You can have it for 15.00. I have a little over half left. I can send you a picture of it. So you can see amount. If interested contact me by email.

The Jungle Gardenia "Oil" on PerfumesCounter.com is not the real thing...

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
The perfume from long lost perfume is not a oil. But as I have searched over the years, I have not found any perfume that is anything like the simple delicate flower from the bush. Anyone know of one that fits this description. I wear perfume for my husband not really for me. Mine for me are much stronger or more powdery at times. But, I also love the fragrance of the white gardenia flower.

I too have been looking for Tuvache Jungle Gardenia and tried the Longlostperfume version, and is definitely isn't anything like the original! I have looked high and low for the original, and found some on eBay, but the most likely still fresh bottle was $149.00 and of course who knows if it is still wearable. Hey, I just bought two bottles of vintage Jungle Gardenia on e Bay. I received them today. The bottle is two ounces of spray cologne. I really only need one, let me know by e mail if you would like to have one of mine. I must admit I also bought another bottle from Judy's Attic the same night. Now I have three and am thinking I have too much to use before my life ends.

I have been told it has not been changed, but then have been told and also read that Cartier tweaked it about 6 yrs ago for a more "mordern" smell. If so, shame on Cartier!!!

Supposedly Irma Shorell (.net) owns the copyright to the Tuvache Trademark and is selling the gardenia perfume at 35.00 for the toilette water. Having the Trademark is not the same as having the formula, I hope they sold that to her too. Its worth a try.

I hope you ladies remember about fragrance sensitive people like me and wear your fragrances very sparingly. I love them but they make me-and 15% of the population-sick :( I was on here researching the Tuvache Nectorama powder as Elizabeth Taylor had given a gift of it to my sister at one time- 35 years ago. I can still smell it as if it were yesterday, great stuff! Wish I could try the other things.

I too have been looking for tuvache's jungle gardenia for a long time, and have tried many of the other gardenia sprays- the only one that comes the closest is Fracas- I sent away for it from some place in Texas and it was expensive. I just sent for a small amount of the gardenia spray Madonna uses, but I am prepared to be disappointed. Fracas is really the closest you will find so far. Now I wish I had bought ten bottles of it all those years ago- whoever devised it was a genius- the smell just gets so beautiful as the hours go on- I wish someone would get ahold of the original formula and manufacture it within our price range.

After surfing the net for long periods of time I discovered that Irma Shorell, Inc. Is the current owner of the Tuvache trademark.

They are making Jungle Gardenia using what they claim is the exact formula as it used to be. The prices they are asking seem to be very reasonable. If the formula really is the same as it was in the 50's it should smell the same. Since I still have an ample supply of my own, I have not yet placed an order with them and cannot verify the quality. I would be interested in hearing opinions from anyone that does.

Check out their site.

Ok ladies, help me out...back in the 70's and 80's I wore Jungle Gardenia Cologne, not perfume. I would get it at the Drug's store, and it was not expensive. Maybe $20. I thought it was first Tuvashe, but when I finally found anything on that brand name referring that it was cologne, they have it extremely expensive. Then I thought it might be Coty. But they said they came out with it in 1995. Was I getting the Tuvashe Cologne for $20 at that time, and now it is $140 for a bottle? Or is there another brand name out there that sold Jungle Gardenia in a cologne spray that I don't know about.

Did you love the Jungle Gardenia perfume from the 70's? I haven't found anything even close so I decided to make a perfume with the same come hither deep base and that sensual gardenia sweetness and the muskiness we all loved that lasted all day. I finally came up with a composition I am calling African Jungle. I always had people say you smell so good when I use to wear the 70's perfume. My first outing wearing my new perfume a woman was talking to the cashier and commenting that something in this store smells wonderful !!! I was in hearing distance and walked over and ask if it was my perfume. She gave me her phone number and was my first customer. That was December 27th 2009 my first sale. I am sending vials to interested persons who would like to try a sample for the cost of postage and the bubble wrap mailer which is $2.oo I know you will love it if you love gardenia perfume like I do. I should have bottles ready to sell on ebay in January 2010 This is Perfume not cologne so it lasts and is much stronger. A little goes a long way. You can email me a kljb@frontiernet.net

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
Mercy, I asked the right question back up there somewhere ladies. Now I know the answer to my question. Thru filtering thru everyone's messages, it appears Tuvache did have a cologne out in the 70's and 80's, and it was a reasonable price. That was what was throwing me completely off kilter. The going price for Tuvache cologne, at least the time I saw it on E-Bay, or something like that, they were selling it for $140. I made sure to look to see it was the cologne they were selling. I thought. Good Grief. Is that the same as I was buying? Thanks to you ladies, you gave me the information I needed. I prefer the spray, because, well, this may sound stupid but I like the idea that my coat has the scent still on it from the spray on my neck. Go figure. You have solved the mystery of the other brand. It was Tuvache all along, but at a reasonable price. I cannot afford the spray if that is what the going price is. I have tried the other brands, just does not work. I never thought to buy Coty, since I discovered it had not come out with the fragrance yet at that time. I am too selective on this scent. It has to be exactly like it was back then. Thanks again ladies. By the way, since we are going with the names Susan, and Sharon, I thought I would let you know my name. Susan aka sas

Tuvache was the original in 1932. Then came coty in 1950. Tuvache supposedly is around again now but supposedly smells different than the original. Seems like someone bought the rights to the name and the trademark, but the formula is different. Better off paying for vintage

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
In reference to Coty, I checked into there history of scents, and they said they came out with Jungle Gardenia in the 90's. Or were you referring to when the company got started which was the year you mentioned. I probably didn't make myself clear when I mentioned about Coty coming on the scene in the 90's. That was referring to that specific scent.
posted 02/14/10 by sas

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I read the following on Bassnotes.net: Jungle Gardenia Coty (1950). I guess that was referring the year the company started and not when the scent came out, because I read somewhere else that the Coty Jungle Gardenia came out in 1995. My mistake, but what I am confused about is that if Tuvache Jungle Gardenia came out in 1932, was that the same formula that was still around in the 70's?

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
Wonder why they say tuvache is in association with coty? especially since coty didn't exist before 1950. Also there are 2 jungle gardenias: coty and tuvache. If tuvache has been re -released recently, coty is also out there. You can buy coty jungle gardenia at perfume emporium for something like $22 a bottle. Is coty part of tuvache, and if so why are there 2 different ones? confusing
posted 02/15/10 by Sharon

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
There seems to be a lot of misinformation posted here about Jungle Gardenia. Some of it comes from the Basenotes website which is chock full of errors on many fragrances and companies. Coty is nearly 100 years old, not started in 1950.

Jungle Gardenia was introduced in 1932 by the original Tuvache' company which no longer exists. When they went out of business, the fragrance was sold to Yardley of London who made it for a short while in small half ounce bottles.

Yardley then sold Jungle Gardenia to the Jovan division of Coty who discontinued it and used the Tuvache bottles for their Jovan Island Gardenia scent.

In 1995 Coty brought out a totally different fragrance built around bananas and used the Jungle Gardenia name for it.. It did not sell well and was discontinued and thousands of bottles are still left from then.

The original Jungle Gardenia was brought back several years ago by Jungle Gardenia, Inc. It is the original 1932 scent and can be found on Amazon, Google, etc., Jungle Gardenia is a U.S. Registered Trademark. Look for the trademark symbol next to the name to be sure it's not some poor imitation, replica formula or type.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I found it online at http://www.irmashorell.net/Perfume-and-Fragrance/tuvache-gardenia-perfume_4?gclid=CK25kKzkjKECFSCjiQodFDPZRg
It has the trademark symbol after Tuvache. The page also says:
Irma Shorell, Inc. Is the current owner of the Tuvache trademark for perfume and other fragrance products and is the owner of United States trademark registration no. 2,590,713.
It is also very inexpensive. Is this it?

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I bought Ima Shorell and compared it to a vintage bottle , it is missing something and also very weak.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I have been looking for a gardenia perfume. After trying on quite a few gardenia and other floral perfumes, I came upon Jungle Gardenia and how so many women want this perfume. I finally went on ebay and bought the vintage Tuvache Jungle Gardenia cologne. The scent is so wonderful! It is because of the comments on this board that I plunk down and bought vintage. Thank you so much! Btw, I also came across Jungle Gardenia on Amazon that says it is trademarked and "Jungle Gardenia" is the brand and claims true to the original 1932 formula. It is $50. If you have tried it, pls drop me note and let me know how it compares to the true original. Thanks!

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
So you can spend a fortune on ebay for something someone has had on the shelf for 40-50 years and hope you don't get ripped off, or you can take a chance on the patented product from Jungle Gardenia, Inc. ($49 at Amazon.com.) The fragrance girls wore in the late 60's drove me CRAZY! It made any average-looking girl who wore it turn instantly beautiful in my eyes :). I bought some from Amazon for my daughter...it should be here in 3-5 days, so I will let you know what I think.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I have read that the new one is nothing like the vintage, in fact i think i read it somewhere on this board several times. Read all the previous posts and i think the info is somewhere on here.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
You can buy it at Amazon.com...the original product, patented...not a replica, formula, type, or version. It's $49.99. Just type in Jungle Gardenia

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
The "new" tuvache jungle gardenia is not the same. Everyone says so, but i tried it the other day..stumbled upon it by accident and i can also vouche that it is not the same. It is similar but not the same and not as good. Read previous posts on this board to see others who agree with this.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
I want to buy one bottle for my mother in-law. It is the only scent she wears. If I bought the wrong one, she will know. I found interesting post on the web though. It tell a lot of the history. It seems concrete enough to believe. Don't you think???

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
Do not buy the Jungle Gardenia on Ebay. I bought 3 bottles and they were all old and had gone bad. I wish they would re-release it.

Here's a link that tells all about the original Jungle Gardenia by Tuvache: http://www.timelessperfumes.com/Jungle%20Gardenia%20Perfume.htm. I plan to purchase a bottle from this site, hoping that it will live up to the one I used in the 60s and 70s.

Re: Tuvache Jungle Gardenia
Several manufacturers are selling perfumes called "Tuvache Gardenia" or "Jungle Gardenia." I bought bottles from each that I could locate and I researched the issue.

The variety of names comes from confusion over trademarks plus the right to manufacture has been sold and resold a couple of times.

Based on my research and, more important, on my personal sniff tests comparing the new bottles to each other and to the perfume in my vintage JG bottle which I've hoarded for thirty five years, the correct one is also the one which is most easily available:

Jungle Gardenia, sold online by Amazon.

I buy it to use and to give away. My daughter (age 20) loves it.
