Coty Sweet Earth
Does anyone remember Coty Sweet Earth from the '70s?
Is there anything out there that smells similar to them?
Especially the hyacinth. |

| Re: Coty Wild Musk Patchouli Blend |
I'm also looking for the Coty wild musk patchouli blend and have been ever since BHPerfume ran out of it and could not find it anywhere. That was in April of this year. Until then I purchased it from them about every 2 months( 2 bottles ea)
I have looked everywhere and am so desparate to find it. I have NEVER had a reaction to the perfume I was wearing more than this particular one. Everyone just loved the scent.
I cannot understand why these companies discontinue scents that do so well? It's very irritating!!! :( |

| I got my little bottle of hyacinth in a Christmas angel long ago. I'd never wear it so it wouldn't run out. Somebody should tell coty to bring it back. Today, I like Rive Gauche and eau Fraiche by Elizabeth Arden. For a one note perfume I like Gardenia by Yves Roche. They all have a clean, fresh whang like the hyacinth. If anybody knows where to get a one note hyacinth, plese post it. |

| I'm looking for coty wild musk patchouli blend-i think it was discontinued in the late eighties. Would anyone know where to find it? it was a sandalwoody patchouli blend, heavier than the jovan fresh patchouli and different from the regular coty women's wild musk. Many thanks. |

Yes! They also came in sprays. They were grassy and the
Hyacinth was excellent. The only thing I ever found that was
Close is Elizabeth Ardens Blue Grass but it loses its grassy smell. |

| Believe it or not, I still have my bottle of musk, my triple compact and a terra cotta cat (kind of like a small Chia Pet) that had a stopper at the bottom in which you placed chips of one of the three fragrances (mine was the patchouli). It was some sort of bonus gift. I refuse to give it up. Coty made rather palatable versions of the fragrances and I loved them all. Takes me back to a pretty great time in my live. With all the revival stuff, I wish they'd bring this back. I'd by a truckload!!!!!! |

| Hi! I am also looking for the Coty Sweet Earth Herb Fragrance! I still have the compact, but alas it is virtually gone! HELP!! I had the Herb Fragrances and they were Chamomile, Sage and Caraway! THE BEST!! Yes, Coty would make a fortune by bringing them back. So where can we get them? Can we make our own somehow?? I remember wearing it and having guys say,"THIS is how a girl should smell!" (Course, I WAS a girl then!!) Anyway, if anyone out there has the Herb Fragrance, I would be interested. |

| I'm working on a perfume trio to replicate the Sweet Earth scents (I make and sell cosmetics and bath and body products). Although I probably wouldn't use a three-compartment compact, I plan to use fragrances that are very close to the originals. If anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me privately at nyattitude@optonline.net. |

At the moment it is all packed up, somewhere amongst a hundred or so boxes, ready for shipping from New York to Seattle. It will be sometime in the middle of this year that it gets unpacked, certainly not before. Try sending an email to meyers at triton dot vg in July 2006 or thereabouts and I may have more information.
I am sorry for the long delay but it really will take me all that time to get organised. I'm going to be in Seattle in a few days time (February) and the boxes won't be shipped until at least May so the stuff is just not available right now. |

Hello, I too remember the amazing fragrance of the sandalwood compact I had, as well as the Wild Musk. Seems like anytime I really! like a fragrance or any other product for that matter, it is discontinued. Sigh.
If ANYONE has a compact or box of the sandalwood or an old bottle/box of the Wild Musk showing the ingredients and would be willing to email or fax a list or Xerox of the ingredients, I would really! appreciate it. Will consider a sale of info if quality warrants also.
I'm going to try and make my own version at home. Sick and tired of greedy companies discontinuing the unique and unusual just because it's not a bazillion-dollar seller. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks everyone!

Reply to V: I have an old solid compact, about two thirds gone, with the "woods" fragrances (sandalwood, amberwood, patchouli) and unfortunately all it says on the compact itself is a general description of the character of each scent... No list of actual ingredients or elements. I think the list of those (if they even had one) was most likely on the external box, and the odds of the boxes still being around is probably much less. Just FYI as you hunt for the contents lists.

You're right on the grass compact. I used up all my clover and most of the hay, but wasn't really fond of the ginger grass. I just took out my small bottle of the Clover Oil I still have and took a sniff. Brings back good memories, but the oil doesn't compare anywhere near what the solid was able to achieve.
It's unfortunate that the company that created these fragrances doesn't have the same respect for them as we do. I think they've tried to come close, but fallen short of their mark.
And no, my little bottle of clover gives no ingredients.
Coty, can you help us out here???? |

That was my all time favorite and would love to find this again. I had contacted Coty about 2 years ago and they sent a reply stating that they had no plans to bring back the Sweet Earth fragrances. I guess they reconsidered if the Vermont Country Store has a few of the scents in the collection. I loved the 70's and Sweet Earth was my perfume of that decade. I had stockpiled bottles to use on special occasions and it actually lasted until 1992! |

Please note everyone -- there are four Coty Sweet Earth perfume auctions this week on eBay (think they are all the same seller.) ?? And these are definitely the real ones from the old days, not new recreations. !!
There's a single fragrance solid perfume compact of Mimosa, a silver metal jug of YlangYlang (listed as "flower fragrance"), a glass bottle spray of Tuberose, and a ceramic jug of Honeysuckle. Just FYI for everybody! :) (Me, I'm still waiting to find something in the Hyacinth scent!)
By the way, I myself have a 2/3 used original (not the new one from Vermont Country Store) Woods compact myself if anyone is interested. (??) This is not one of the newer remakes available now by mail order but the original, a very old ("vintage"!) compact, was buried in a drawer for years! The fragrances (Sandalwood, Amberwood, and Patchouli) have gotten slightly darker and less pliable but still smell good, not rancid or anything. If anyone is interested. ??

This is the first time I've seen this one on eBay, so if you really hope to find one you should try your luck at bidding. (What do you have to lose? If you lose, at least you tried, and if you win, you'll have the perfume!) Good luck!

Hey everybody, obviously Coty is now a dead end for the Sweet Earth line, so let's all start writing to the Vermont Country Store instead, and ask THEM about carrying other Coty Sweet Earth items (it worked with the solid compacts, they figured there was enough demand, etc., etc.) ??
Maybe --from them-- we could get the other stuff back, like the gingergrass and the other compacts (colonial flowers, grasses, etc.) ?! Well, just an idea!

Hi Annie-
I saw the Columbine compact on EBAY & asked about it & the lady said the fragrance did not smell much anymore and you really could not wear it, basically it was the compact she was selling.
I bought a compact at the Vermont Country Store recently(Flowers)
And it's just OK. But I do think they changed the formulation & it's not as good as I remembered it. I wish they would bring back the whole line of compacts. There was a buch of them I can't really remember. I would like to have the grasses, columbine & other flower collections. |

| Re: Coty Sweet Earth |
I was thrilled to see that Vt. Country Store claims to be selling "our" Sweet Earth Scents. Upon closer examination though, the floral is not the same trio as the original. The original had honeysuckle, jasmine and mimosa. The new one is hyacinth, ylang-ylang and honeysuckle.
I may ask VCS if they plan to get the original floral version. |
| posted 02/12/07 by cofarb |
| Re: Coty Sweet Earth |
Reply to cofarb: Yes, that IS one of the original Coty Sweet Earth solid fragrance trios, there were actually several different trios of the flower ones! (Each with different scents.)
There were two different "colonial" flower trios, for instance, (colonial garden, and colonial wildflower,) each with 3 different ones. And at least two different flower mixes (the one they offer now, and the one you mention, both of which I have owned in the past.)
I used to get the one with the hyacinth most often --the one you saw now-- because their hyacinth was my favorite of all their scents (and while they also made single tray ones of individual flowers too I found those were harder to find,) so I remember getting that trio (and was happy to see that was one of the ones they brought back!)
They also had solid compact trios of other scent collections too. Like the woods (which is the other choice now available again), the grasses (hay, clover, etc.), the herbs (sage, chamomile, caraway), one called wild mountain fragrances (it had mountainledge flowers, alpine breezes, and sunwarmed woods) and more. (Probably others remember some I've forgotten to list!)
I wish there was a list of all of them available for us to refer to in fact. (Instead we all just have to match notes on who used to have what.) But that flower trio compact that the Vermont Country Store is currently offering is indeed one of the original sets that were available then, just FYI!
I'm hoping though if enough people write to them and ask for their favorites (in the Sweet Earth line), that they might release some more collections and expand the choices even further (you never know!)

| Re: Coty Sweet Earth/Vermont Country Stores |
| Betsy -- unfortunately, Vermont Country Store rarely if ever seems to be able to get the rights to the original formulas for perfumes, when it comes out with a "remake." Why not -- I couldn't say. If the original company--Coty in this case--no longer has any desire to make or sell the perfume -- why not sell the actual formula, packaging design, & name to some company that WOULD like to manufacture it? I had the same experience with Vermont Country Store's remake of "Golden Autumn." It was one of my favorites long ago, and my sister was thrilled to present me with a bottle of it a couple years ago. Alas--and of course I never told Sis this--but the "remade" version smells absolutely nothing like the original. In truth--I don't even like it. All of this is nothing against Vermont Country Stores though, mind you. For the most part, I like their products--but I am leery of their perfume & cologne offerings. |

"Floral"-lovers, be aware there was more than one "original" floral combo! The other one that people keep insisting now was "the" original was only ONE of them, there were several in different "collections" (and ALL were equally "original!")
The one with the hyacinth that is being sold now was ALSO original! Came out at the same time as the other one they keep mentioning (YES, people, the one they are selling DID exist then initially! It was my favorite, in fact! So believe me, I know!) :P
There were also two "colonial" floral combos, with additional different flower scents - colonial garden had peony, verbena and lavender; and colonial wildflowers had wild rose, columbine, and lilac.
There were grass ones (hay, clover, etc.,) and herb ones (sage, chamomile, caraway,) a "wild mountain" one (alpine breeze, mountainledge flowers, sunwarmed woods) and the woods one that they are carrying now (sandalwood, amberwood, and patchouli.)
ALL of those are ORIGINAL! They came in two sizes (.14 oz and .25 oz) and in various groups of fragrances. All from Coty Sweet Earth line. Those nice little beige & brown plastic compacts with the earth tones cardboard box.
And the hyacinth was my very favorite of all the Sweet Earths so I am just starting to shake my head about the people who aren't reading all the posts and still insisting that the one for sale now through the Country Store is not the "real" or "original" floral combo.
It IS, maybe just not the one that THEY remember (out of the various ones for sale.) !!! So just know that there was more than one to begin with, and "yours" wasn't the ONLY one!
Yes, the one they sell now was one of them too, and despite the fact the Vermont Country Stores version is not as nice as the one from olden days (it isn't, it doesn't last as long or smell as vivid, sadly,) it is nevertheless a genuine set of fragrances from the original Coty Sweet Earth collection compacts.
Actually, let's all just be happy we can find ANY versions at ALL these days, we're lucky they started having them even in a limited selection (and maybe they'll keep expanding the line if it's popular... Write to them and ask!)

| Found this post from Googling for Coty Sweet Earth Scents..I wore the Sage Oil..it came in the cutest little bottle with a cork and sold for $3.50. I have never worn a scent since that got me so much attention and approval..it smelled great. When I couldn't find it anywhere..I called Coty and offered to buy it by the case if I had too..that was 20 yrs. Ago..I told then they were crazy for discontinuing it..maybe if we get a petition together and send it to them they would revive this great line of scents from the 70's. Maybe we need some action here girls (ladies now..lol) not just sharing memories!!! I am once again calling Coty in the morning..and will give them the address of this site and just maybe..they will think of doing something..we are the largest age group of consumers right now..we can move mountains!!!!!! So get moving ladies..but ohhhh the memories from those enlightening 70s...some better left unsaid..little ears might be listening..what would they think of Grandma..LOL.. |

| There was a compact that contained tuberose and mimosa, I can't remember what the middle one was. Noone seems to have mentioned tuberose and it was gorgeous. It also seems to depend on where you are as to what you remember. I get the impression that they sold different compacts in the UK and the US. I think they brought out 3 here - grasses, flowers and woods, then later they brought out another 3. |

Thank you, Annie, for the compact fragrance clairification.
J, your florals compact with tuberose and mimosa was the "rare florals" compact. Parfums DeCoeur makes a body spray in Tuberose Musk that is very similar to Coty's cream version: http://www.parfumsdecoeur.com/body_fantasies_product.cfm?category=1&flavor_id=67
Coty's website www.coty.com has a "contact us" section. Recently, I contacted them about "Sweet Earth Compacts", and if there were any plans for bringing these back. The reply message from Coty, while polite, was simply:
"this product has been discontinued, we have no inventory left to offer a direct mail purchase option, and we regret to advise of no future date for reintroduction ... We appreciate your enthusiasm, and invite you to contact our consumer affiars department with additional questions or comments at 1-800-715-4023".
I would encourage all of you to contact Coty via whatever method. While I was discouraged that there are no current plans to reintroduce Sweet Earth ( I would buy nearly all of the original compact trio's for not only myself but for my peer friends and family with whom I exchange gifts), just think about the demographics: Most of us are in our 40's, have expendable income, and 70's retro is currently popular. This is nothing but a market waiting to be tapped. My speculation is that even a temporary, like holiday time, reintroduction of this product would be hugely successful ... But Coty needs to hear from us.
Please join me in continuing to contact Coty regarding the original solid frangrence trio Sweet Earth compacts! The worst that can happen is ... We all keep posting these messages and remembering our youth! |

In addition to encouraging you all to contact Coty, I also encourage you to contact Vermont Country Store. I just received by "woods" and "florals" compacts which they have "brought back", and they do a nice job of replicating what once was. I would love to see them expand this line, if Coty won't reissue, to include "rare florals" (this one had the Tuberose), Grasses, Herbs, Colonial Wildflowers, Colonial Garden, and Wild Mountain. Are we missing any?
Anyway, yes, the "copies" are not quite the same but they are as close as we get for now, and so worth it! |

________________________________________________
Annie, I've copied your post here for reference. I've been searching for a scent from the late 70's which I've almost given up on finding. I do remember the name Colonial Garden, and I'm wondering if it might be the same one you mentioned. This one wasn't a solid though, it was a green bottle of a dab on fragrance... Or perhaps the cologne was actually green. Can you, or any other poster, recall this fragrance? I remember it as being the most beautiful scent. Thanks! |

| When I was a teenager I wore Coty Sweet Earthg Sandalwood. I LOVED it so of course it was discontinued! :-( I was so excited when I saw the "original" Sweet Earth compacts at Vermont Country Store.I bought the "woods" trio and could hardly wait for it to arrive. What a disappointment! The texture, color smell... NOTHING was the same as the original. I will have to keep looking! If anyone finds something close, please let me know! |

| Re: Coty Sweet Earth |
| Cheryl--I share your disappointment. I loved the woods, grasses & herbs trios back in the 70s. Alas--the Vermont Country Store versions have a synthetic, plastic, chemical odor to them that totally overwhelms the fragrance. And they've bumped up the price too! I don't understand it. My sister makes inexpensive solid perfume using just essential oils, etc--and it smells lovely. If I could find an old Sweet Earth compact I could actually afford (And to think I probably tossed away half a dozen of them in my youth!) -- believe me, I'd just commission her to fill it up with some of her versions of the old scents. |

Alot of personal care companies are jumping on the band wagon! |

Recreation of this line as something like a holiday promotion could be a huge success, who knows? Keep up the spirit. In the mean time the replicas available through Vermont Country store are close but not 100%, and, I recommend to watch ebay - chances are you'll, with patience, have opportunity to bid on originals on line, though you'll usually pay a price. |

Hi Mary,
Something on Facebook is a great idea, a super way to get attention. I am sure there are lots of gals who loved the Sweet Earth Collection and they don't even know we are trying to get it back. We could get them to join the ranks and send Coty tons of requests! In my opinion, the ones at the Vermont Country Store are no where near the originals. I would give most anything to have my Gingergrass back!

Hello Mikki,
Like you, I love the grasses. My favorite is the Gingergrass.
I did break down and purchased the Grasses compact. I was SO disappointed! The fragrance was not even close to the original scent. Heck, I found a half-filled bottle from back in the '70's that smelled better!

| Thanks for the heads-up regarding buying the Coty product from Vermont Country Store or anyone....at least for the moment. Guess I'll just settle for sitting at the curb when someone is cutting his or her grass.....as it was two days ago and which sent me into the nostalgia of this scent by Coty. | Re: Coty Sweet Earth |
| The fragrance compacts from Vermont Country Store smell nothing like the originals, somehow, Vermont Country Store got another company to try to reproduce the originals scents. But they are not coming from Coty. The fragrance compacts smell fake and artificial and I sent them back. I tried a few of them and was very disappointed. Vermont Country Store also tried to do reproduce the "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" shampoos (remember those from the 70's?). Again, they don't smell or work well like the original product. So please my friends, don't waste your money on these "knockoffs". Your best bet it to try EBAY for the original rare compacts. Believe it or not they still smell great as I remembered even after all these years because they are made with natural essential oils from the flowers, grasses and herbs - not fake synthetics. |
